Being a newbie myself and not even a week-old, I already faced a retirement. I'd like to get some tips on how to correctly narrow down the suspects list.

It is given that a suspect with a real alibi will be scratched off from the list --with the exception of doppelganger cases -- but is it also given that suspects who are KN are also innocent?

I tend to rule KN's out even without asking them about their alibis but it just dawned on me how stupid of a move it was.

If I remember correctly, and I hope I am not mistaken, I worked on a case where a KN is the guilty one. Should we really trust the shopkeepers? I'd appreciate and I'll wait for any help.

Hi Windom. The fact that a suspect knows nothing gives no clue as to whether they are guilty or innocent. The shopkeepers only know what the suspects have told them - and that may be right or wrong.

But have you read cfm's thread for new players like yourself? It's titled 'Welcome Newbies..." and it's just a couple of threads above yours - here in the Newbie Questions section. It has just about everything you'd want to know as a new player. I hope this helps and - welcome to the game : )

Yeah, what Zara said, and:

1. At this point in your career I wouldn't waste questions asking Townies if they know anything about the your case. To me (and other players may certainly disagree with me here) you only need to ask about this if you're trying to solve your case by witness evidence. You want to use your valuable questions asking Townies to verify alibis and discover who physical evidence belongs to.

2. Whether a witness knows anything has absolutely no bearing on whether s/he may or may not be guilty. Don't get distracted by this information.

3. The Sleuth Bible is: PE + FALSE ALIBI/NO ALIBI* = GUILTY
WE + FALSE ALIBI = GUILTY
WE + WE = GUILTY

Only if you have met one of these criteria can you safely accuse a suspect.

No alibi meaning the suspect says "It's none of your business what I was doing," or you pick the lock to their home and discover nothing. If you are unable to determine a suspect's alibi you CANNOT safely accuse him and will most likely be on your way to retirement if you do.

The exception to the rule is - if you cannot determine whether a suspect has a real or fake alibi, you can safely accuse if you can get two pieces of witness evidence against him. (Good luck with that!)

WE = witness evidence
PE = physical evidence

Hey Windom!

The fact that Fatima gave you above about the safe accusation is very useful. As a new player, you should stick strictly to those formula.

Besides, I suggest you to join an agency. Playing with a group will help you a lot. They can help you solve the cases you cannot; they can lend you the money to clear the false accusation; they can also give you information for this game. And many other benefits you can get from joining an agency.

"Knows nothing" means that the suspect knows nothing about other people.

They could still be guilty of the crime :)

Yes, you can trust the shopkeepers. If they say he/she wasn't there at the time of the murder they really weren't there.

If not the game would be 100% guessing.

I agree with what everyone has said so far. I might also suggest you get research as a skill. It will help eliminate one suspect with a false alibi from your suspect list.

You click on "learn skills" on your detective page, and if you have enough skill points, you can purchase it. But I doubt you have a lot of skill points with 50 experience. You can get more experience by playing cases :)
