Hello everyone. I’ll be hosting another game of Resistance, and I encourage all lurkers from the previous game(s) to come out and play! We’ll keep it simple with just gameplay and no story this time. And if you’ve never played before, feel free to jump right in, because we all need more imaginary problems to worry about. :)

The game takes place over a series of 5 "missions." The Resistance is trying to complete 3 missions successfully, while the spies are attempting to sabotage 3 missions. First one to 3 wins.

I will serve as game master. Once we get enough people to play (5-10 total), I will PM everyone their allegiance (either "Resistance" or "Spy"). If you are a "Spy," I will also PM you the names of your co-conspirators.

A "leader" will be chosen at random for the first mission. The leader has 2 important functions:
1) The leader will assign various "role" abilities to players. These are one-shot special powers a player can use to learn more information about someone.
2) The leader will assign players to the "team" for that mission.

Missions will have a varying number of players who are selected; the leader picks a team, then every player will vote on whether or not they approve the team by PMing me. Once all the votes are cast, I will post the voting results. If a majority approves the team, the mission starts. If not, the mission does not start, and the next player in line becomes the new "leader" for that round. This continues until either a mission is approved, or 5 consecutive mission teams are rejected (in which case the spies win automatically.)

Once a mission team is approved, those players will PM me their choice of action during that mission. Resistance players will ALWAYS choose to have the mission succeed by sending "Success," while spies have a choice: they can either elect to have the mission succeed (to throw off suspicion), or they can "Sabotage" the mission.

I’ve been trying to collate information on all the votes - plus major reasons that players have given for actions they’ve taken - as I just need to get it al together in one place. I’m finding it really difficult to keep up wth all the posts. If I feel it would be useful to other people then I’ll post it here later.

Hi Sindy: you are going to be proved so wrong. I will gladly take any sleuth dollar bets against me being RESISTANCE.

Why would I vote YES for a team with someone I suspect of being a spy on it? I take it you mean Mission 2, Team 3 - Bela’s choice, with Bela herself on it? Because at that point everything is conjecture. We needed some hard evidence on who is (or is highly likely to be) a spy. Pretty obvious In fact, you also expressed doubts about Bela yet voted for her team proposal - as did miss snopes. Yet you conveniently overlook these facts.

And in your card-use scenario, what good does it do if “*you* are 100% sure of that person's allegiance.”. It’s only useful if/when you are selecting a team - and that can be voted down in a trice. You are then back to trying to convince others to believe the info you learned in a PM. It could work if you were RESISTANCE, and had pretty much worked out who 2 of the 3 spies were but needed confirmation of the third. Being in that position is a long-shot, however.

You say: “So, basically, what you're saying Zara is it's hopeless to determine who the spies are?” Um, no Sindy. And the whole reason that I voted YES for Bela’s team was precisely to help track down a spy. We now know that one spy is either Ty or Bela (or possibly shell if we suspect Sal’s report of her SUCCESS vote in any way).

I’m honoured to be on your ‘likely spies’ list, Sindy - and I’ll take any wager you care to set on that. How about $500,000? I’m happy with either sleuth dollars or real cash : )

Accidentally hit post. I don't think I would have been allowed to post much more anyway. :P Just modify the last part of my sentence to "all the *possible* spy combos" in your heads, thank you very much.

Missy [ Jul-19-2017 19:46]: LOL, I know, just because you knew who the spies were, you sat back and let us go crazy trying to figure out who the spies were. Now you know what that's like! XD

Again, as for the game booting you after you've just typed out a long post: haha, I don't think Yeti can/should have to do anything about it - right now, typing in these boxes doesn't count as interaction with the game and a long period of not interacting with it will have the game time you out. We'll have to use workarounds - like the Announcer says, having your mailbox open probably should help you stay connected to the game since it will keep auto-refreshing in the background.

Zara [ Jul-20-2017 01:37] Of course we CAN'T be SURE of anything revealed only via PM and later reported on the boards, but we KNOW not to take that stuff at face value. That doesn't make it worthless, it's info we get so we should figure out which arrangement will ensure that we make the best use of it. I feel like you're harping on that point to have something to do now. As to why spies might find voting YES easier, I meant that they might find it easier if that is what everybody else is doing, so they don't draw too much attention to themselves and/or have to justify their vote and possibly give something away. They can easily say they just need to give whatever team a chance to justify a YES vote. I'll try to lay out my thoughts on this properly later; it could use some clarification but it isn't so hard to grasp as is either.

Sindy [Jul-20-2017 06:27], what exactly are you referring to when you say Zara voted for a team that had someone she suspected was a spy on it (- was the suspected spy me? That's the only thing I can think of off the top of my head)?

Why should we even bother posting, Zara, according to you? Nothing anyone posts can be taken at face value either.

What good does it do if you only *you* are 100% sure of another player's allegiance? Because then hopefully you can point out other clues or missteps made by the spies to convince your fellow Resistance players. Also, once you know who one spy is for certain, it makes it easier to determine who the other spies are. It's like a logic puzzle.

@Bela, I meant the remark about voting for someone you believe is a spy generally - and surely everyone must have some suspicion as to who they believe is a spy by now.

Bela dear, if no one is responsible for it, why is it here? Maybe it's time for a new solution. These boxes might not be considered a direct interaction with the game, but I'm not on facebook either. I simply think that if it's here it ought to work.

I'm still holding on to strong leader. I have every faith that even if this goes to a team 5 choice that all resistance will vote Yes whether we want to or not. And yes it might not be a team anyone really wants, but in the end something can be learned from it.

I think this is the first time we have had an actual 5/3 vote split.

Good Luck Sal, let's see who you choose.

Okay, shell isn't using her power, so Sal should propose a team now, right? I know you're not the biggest fan of STRONG LEADER, and yeah, it isn't being played here. :P

Can I suggest a team of Sal, Missy, Aspen, and (shocker:) Bela? If you have something else in mind, go for it, Sal, but I was just thinking about what shell said about us having to vote for this team or the next and I don't want to be forced into voting for a team without having said my piece. I think this team might be a good one (unless you think it's too close to the M2 team)? Going with an all-out new team wouldn't make too much sense either though.

Actually, Sal, if you are Resistance, you know that the saboteur on the previous mission had to be either Ty or me. And you know shell voted YES so you might be inclined to put her on the team as well. However, I think it might be dangerous to go with a team too similar to the M2 one - you'd be risking another loss AND we wouldn't learn anything new (since it'd be the same suspect pool, minus one person who might have been a spy anyway, plus a new person who could also be a spy). If anybody else has any thoughts, I'd love to hear them.

@Shell, regarding your post at Jul-20-2017 09:42. There have been two other teams with a 5 YES: 3 NO vote split.

M1, T2 (Team Leader: Ty) - Approved (5-3). Mission SUCCESS

Team: Ty, Sindy, Aspen
Yes votes: Sal, Ty, Aspen, shell, Zara
No votes: Sindy, Bela, miss snopes

M2, T3 (Team Leader: Bela) - Approved (5-3). Mission FAILURE

Team: shell, Ty, Sal, Bela
Yes votes: Sindy, Bela, shell, Zara, miss snopes
No votes: Sal, Ty, Aspen

(Just to recap: this was the mission that failed with 1 SABOTAGE vote and 3 SUCCESS votes. Sal used IN THE SPOTLIGHT to show that he voted SUCCESS. He also used KEEPING A CLOSE EYE ON YOU and stated that it revealed shell marple voted SUCCESS.

My suggestion is we redo Mission 1, Team 2 + 1 player. My suggestion for that + 1 is Shell Marple.
