Hello everyone. I’ll be hosting another game of Resistance, and I encourage all lurkers from the previous game(s) to come out and play! We’ll keep it simple with just gameplay and no story this time. And if you’ve never played before, feel free to jump right in, because we all need more imaginary problems to worry about. :)

The game takes place over a series of 5 "missions." The Resistance is trying to complete 3 missions successfully, while the spies are attempting to sabotage 3 missions. First one to 3 wins.

I will serve as game master. Once we get enough people to play (5-10 total), I will PM everyone their allegiance (either "Resistance" or "Spy"). If you are a "Spy," I will also PM you the names of your co-conspirators.

A "leader" will be chosen at random for the first mission. The leader has 2 important functions:
1) The leader will assign various "role" abilities to players. These are one-shot special powers a player can use to learn more information about someone.
2) The leader will assign players to the "team" for that mission.

Missions will have a varying number of players who are selected; the leader picks a team, then every player will vote on whether or not they approve the team by PMing me. Once all the votes are cast, I will post the voting results. If a majority approves the team, the mission starts. If not, the mission does not start, and the next player in line becomes the new "leader" for that round. This continues until either a mission is approved, or 5 consecutive mission teams are rejected (in which case the spies win automatically.)

Once a mission team is approved, those players will PM me their choice of action during that mission. Resistance players will ALWAYS choose to have the mission succeed by sending "Success," while spies have a choice: they can either elect to have the mission succeed (to throw off suspicion), or they can "Sabotage" the mission.

Thank you for the enlightenment, Bela.
I have a suspicion that Sal might be a spy, so far he is not playing his usual stlye of play whenever he's been resistance. But having said that, this team makes the most sense to me, for the very reasons Bela sighted.

I might be lost somewhere in your post, Bela. So I cannot get your point properly. Why don't you pick Aspen while you said you 80% believe her? And even if Sal is not in the team, he can still use the card on the team also. So what is the advantage of taking him into this team?

I am sorry but I found myself unconvinced by your idea, Bela. As I said, I prefer a team based on the previous successful team, not a totally new team. So if there is no change, I'm gonna vote NO for this team. However, I will wait until the very last moment to vote so you can make me change my mind if you want. Because as I view, you are a very experiencing player. So it's better if we can get each other well.

Hi Bela, I’m trying to make sense of where you’re coming from - but I just can’t. For example:

“I don't really suspect Aspen of being a spy right now though, I'm ~80% sure she's Resistance.”
Based on what? I have to agree with Ty on this.

Also: “I think this team will be easier to read though.” Why? Aspen in v Aspen out surely doesn’t carry that degree of weight?

You’ve also said (in an earlier post): “we need to win 3 missions, sussing out who the spies are is supposed to be incidental.” Lol - how do we win the missions without actively trying to suss out who the spies are and excluding them from teams? I’m going to resurrect Sindy’s term here - *disingenuous*

I’m almost certain that this mission will be SABOTAGED and, in a bizarre way, that’s also why I’ve voted YES for this mission team. We are in dire need of some substantial evidence. I think you may have chosen a team that allows you to be the only spy on it and thus to hide your SABOTAGE vote amid a selection of Resistance players. If there are two SABOTAGE votes - wow, that will be something.

You’ve also talked a lot about how people played their role as spy or resistance in previous games - and how you’re comparing this to their current game play in order to assess which side they’re on. I think this is probably a good idea. In which case, I have to say that last time you were RESISTANCE and your ‘personality’ on the game thread was very different indeed. Just saying.

But hey, wouldn’t it be wonderfully ironic if you now voted NO for your own team selection? That would really throw the cat among the pigeons. Go on, I dare you ; )

Sal - thanks for posting : ) I was a golf widow for a while until my husband tired of that and took up orienteering - then yoga. I wonder what’s coming next...

I know I said I would keep my thoughts to myself, so I'll keep it short.

I agree with one thing Zara says: “'I don't really suspect Aspen of being a spy right now though, I'm ~80% sure she's Resistance.' Based on what?"

I was 80% sure *you* were Resistance, Bela, until you threw that into your post.

I've voted YES for this team nonetheless. If this mission is sabotaged it will be very easy to determine *who* sabotaged it. (I'm assuming Sal is going to use his two cards here.) If it passes - which doesn't mean there's not a spy on the team - a new mission will start and team leadership will pass to Shell, who at this point is the only person I trust and the rest of you will probably believe if she confirms I'm Resistance - assuming she gets a card that will allow her to do so.

What I agree with Zara on is her question to Bela: Based on what?

I have done my best to catch up and I must say, "I'm more confused than ever". This is some of the wildest speculation I can imagine. There has been one vote and not surprisingly Mission 1 was a success. I have seen it said or implied that several people are or are not playing their "normal" game. Things like, they were a good spy last time, or we thought so and so was a spy and turned out to be Resistance. I get it that we suspect everyone and start to winnow that down. Usually, or should I say my "normal" game is to do that based on some kind of evidence. I like to have something, anything, to base my opinions on; I have no clairvoyant abilities. Thus far I have seen nothing sinister in anyone's actions. What I have heard are half baked ideas, backed by no evidence. Maybe we should rename this game "Hunches".

This said, I do have some things about which I am more suspicious.

I am suspicious of the "quiet" players, are they afraid to speak for fear that they'll say something incriminating?

I am suspicious of Bela wanting to be in control of so many elements of the game, are you trying to lead us somewhere?

I am suspicious of shell not playing her normal game. Of course, this is her first game. But she did look over my shoulder in the last game and thought I was a spy the whole time.

I am suspicious that Zara, because she seems to be making more sense than anyone so far. Are you trying to trick us with logic?

I'm sorry. I didn't mean to turn to sarcasm, but is summed up my feelings pretty well. I have seen nothing to nail anyone on thus far. I'm back to being suspicious of everyone.

I still feel pretty good about this team. Ty, I've already said that I prefer swapping shell out for Sindy; that and me being on the team are the only changes I've made. Aspen typically never says much, and that doesn't help me in any way. I agree that the spies and the Resistance are always talking over each other, but being silent doesn't help the Resistance much unless you're quietly figuring something out (in which case you'll need to be believed when you open up about your findings later on).

And Zara, if you have checked out my recent games you'll see that a (admittedly small but telling) difference in how I play when Resistance as opposed to when I'm a spy. As to why I mostly trust Aspen too, it's because she threw light upon a few things that a spy would not really (usually) talk about at all. Still, the way I see things so far, I have an extra Resistance player or two, so I'm going to try getting the Resistance a second win and hope for good powers to figure out who the Resistance players I'm not sure of might be.
