After years of anticipation, the Battery Boardwalk has finally opened its doors to the general public. The residents of Sleuthville come streaming in through the ticket booth--a line stretching as far as the eye can see. Among those gaining entry is a group of elite detectives with complimentary day passes to the attractions, invited specifically to keep an eye on things. A week prior to opening, the higher-ups at the Boardwalk had received anonymous threats of sabotage and murder if the Boardwalk was not torn down immediately. However, the proprietor was not one to submit to intimidation. Thus, on opening day, a group of highly-ranked detectives were tasked with keeping the park safe.

Unfortunately, there have been rumors floating around that some in the ranks of the elite had been approached by the mysterious threat-maker, and were now working for him to guarantee the day would end in disaster. It is said only those who turned to the dark side knew who the others were; everyone else had to eye each other with suspicion and make their own judgements. Although the team has been compromised, there is no time to vet and assemble another one on such short notice. Yet the day is young and there are plenty of opportunities to ensure opening day is a success.

The detectives’ job this fine day is to make the rounds of the park and keep an eye out for any suspicious or potentially dangerous activities. If opening day goes off without a hitch, the Boardwalk is sure to bring in millions, and the detectives would stand to receive a substantial cut for their services. But if it were to fail, then Sleuthville would be plunged into financial ruin and return to the days of never-ending guilty clients and exorbitant Shady fees. Oh no.

Will the Battery Boardwalk’s grand opening be an unparalleled success, or will it go down in flames accompanied by nothing but the screams of disappointed visitors? Stay tuned to find out in this installment of The Resistance.

Even before the second Mission succeeds or fails, I am interested in miss snopes vote on the proposed team. As the only NO vote, I am thinking that perhaps she knows from her allegiance being divulged to Zara and Zara's subsequent declaration that miss snopes is a spy, that Zara was not being truthful with us and has done all she can to warn us about it. But then again, maybe I'm wrong and Zara has told the truth. We should find out soon.

If the mission fails at least we will know that 2 out of the 3 are spies. Then slowly deduce from there.

And I am curious about AspenK voting yes.

If she is a spy then she knows that the other spy is on the team so by voting yes, she can continue to lie low and not out herself while the other spy sabotages this mission.

Well judging by the other comments and reasoning on this thread it would seem that either Sal or Bela (or both) could have performed a nice "lying low" strategy. By allowing the first mission to succeed, in order to allay suspicion, s/he can now sabotage this one.

Posts!

Aspen, there are 3 Resistance players and 2 spies in this game, so it's definitely possible to form an all-Resistance team since the maximum number of people required on any mission is 3 (it's always possible to form an all-Res team in any game of Resistance, just not very probable). And every mission in this game only needs one sabotage vote to fail - I'm pointing this out because I'm not sure why you said that if this mission failed, at least you would know *2* of the 3 are spies.

Sal, miss snopes would have to vote that way whether or not she was Resistance because she and Zara are (at least) publicly on opposite sides and she couldn't possibly approve of a team with Zara on it either because she is Resistance and knows that Zara's a spy or because she has to keep up appearances.

Either way miss snopes, you have a very good point about Aspen's YES vote, and you're suddenly looking slightly more Resistance to me. Welp.

I was really surprised when this mission was approved 4-1 and I reaallly wanted to veto it somehow; hopefully I was right when I picked Zara, and this is just paranoia.

Mission 2 Result:

Zara and Sal return about 30 seconds later, having procured both a large tarp and an extremely long and thick rope. Zara quickly gathers the aid of others standing nearby to stretch out the tarp, and shouts for the riders to jump, one by one. Meanwhile, Sal tosses the rope with superhuman strength over a one of the Big Wheel's metal beams. He grabs both ends and (also with the help of passersby) begins the world's most ridiculous-looking game of tug-of-war.

It seems the plan has worked. The Big Wheel is no longer screeching, and half of the riders have already disembarked. Bela has managed to jump down and is helping to coordinate the rescue effort. Suddenly, there is a loud CRACK as the rope Sal's team is holding snaps. The Big Wheel lurches away from the area, accompanied by the screams of the trapped riders. It rolls briefly over a section of the Boardwalk before crashing into the Hudson River.

Mission 2 consisting of Bela, Sal and Zara was a FAILURE.

The team members voted as follows:
???? SUCCESS
???? SUCCESS
???? SABOTAGE

Aspen, leadership will now pass to you for the next mission.

Mission 3: Cinema Catastrophe

A long queue has formed outside of the cinema. To accompany the boardwalk's opening, a new international film featuring Greta Garbo is being shown exclusively at this venue. The crowd buzzes with excitement as the doors finally open, and surge inwards. The theater is packed to the brim, with every seat taken and even some people standing at the back.

Among the first to get in is Aspen, who is secretly a movie connoisseur. It couldn't hurt to watch just one little movie, she thought. After all, it would technically count as patrolling the area. The theater-goers all settle down as the movie begins to play. Soon they are all enraptured by the plot and Greta's lovely acting.

The smell of burning popcorn wafts through the space, though nobody pays it any mind. However, the smell soon becomes stronger and no longer smells like popcorn. A white haze has filled the air and is slowly obscuring the screen. Grumbling comes from the crowd, then eventually turns into shouting. The cinema has caught fire! The audience panics and rushes for the doors. To their dismay, the doors have been locked. Aspen quickly assesses the situation, and manages to see another of her fellow detectives in the crowd. She runs over and begins talking quickly.

Mission 3 will consist of TWO team members.

Aspen, the team leader, has been given one advantage to distribute to whomever she sees fit. Keeping it for herself is also permitted. The ability is:

OVERHEARD CONVERSATION: Owner of this card learns the allegiance of either the player above/below him/her on the player list via PM from the game master. (They player may share this information on the game board if they so wish, but are not required to tell the truth.)

Aspen, please assign this ability when you're ready.

Aspen, whose allegiance would you like to know? Bela or miss snopes?

Huh. I can ask about Bela or confirm if miss Snopes is a spy or if Zara is the spy.
