After years of anticipation, the Battery Boardwalk has finally opened its doors to the general public. The residents of Sleuthville come streaming in through the ticket booth--a line stretching as far as the eye can see. Among those gaining entry is a group of elite detectives with complimentary day passes to the attractions, invited specifically to keep an eye on things. A week prior to opening, the higher-ups at the Boardwalk had received anonymous threats of sabotage and murder if the Boardwalk was not torn down immediately. However, the proprietor was not one to submit to intimidation. Thus, on opening day, a group of highly-ranked detectives were tasked with keeping the park safe.

Unfortunately, there have been rumors floating around that some in the ranks of the elite had been approached by the mysterious threat-maker, and were now working for him to guarantee the day would end in disaster. It is said only those who turned to the dark side knew who the others were; everyone else had to eye each other with suspicion and make their own judgements. Although the team has been compromised, there is no time to vet and assemble another one on such short notice. Yet the day is young and there are plenty of opportunities to ensure opening day is a success.

The detectives’ job this fine day is to make the rounds of the park and keep an eye out for any suspicious or potentially dangerous activities. If opening day goes off without a hitch, the Boardwalk is sure to bring in millions, and the detectives would stand to receive a substantial cut for their services. But if it were to fail, then Sleuthville would be plunged into financial ruin and return to the days of never-ending guilty clients and exorbitant Shady fees. Oh no.

Will the Battery Boardwalk’s grand opening be an unparalleled success, or will it go down in flames accompanied by nothing but the screams of disappointed visitors? Stay tuned to find out in this installment of The Resistance.

I have to agree with miss snopes that things seem a little quiet here . . .

My semi-suspicions re the proposed mission team don't appear to have been shared by others, so I'll try to look at it positively and hope for mission success.

My next vote is easy.

Ah it seems only the team members themselves vote on this one. My misunderstanding : )

Mission 1 Result:

As Zara dashes toward the controls, her only thought is getting there as quickly as she can. The next second, however, she has stepped on something and suddenly she is flat on her back, staring at the cloudless sky. Winded, Zara curses internally, wondering what kind of fool just leaves a discarded canister lying on the ground.

Meanwhile, Bela is still sprinting towards the coaster, leaping with the dexterity of a rabbit. As she reaches the controls, she realizes they seem to be jammed. She frantically pulls at levers, but nothing gives. Sal, who has spotted the commotion from nearby, makes his way over to the panel and nonchalantly dumps the contents of his beverage cup all over it.

Sparks fizzle out of the panel. Overhead, the roller coaster car freezes in place, exactly 2 feet away from the end of the track. A collective sigh of relief rises from the crowd. The hard part is over; now they just have to get the passengers safely to the ground.

Mission 1 consisting of Sal and Bela was a SUCCESS.

The team members voted as follows:
???? SUCCESS

Bela, leadership will now pass to you for the next mission.

Mission 2: Big Wheel Woes

Bela, contentedly snacking on some roasted peanuts one of the rescued riders gratefully bought for her, decides she deserves a break for her hard work. She eyes the Big Wheel, wondering if she can indeed see all of Sleuthville from atop it, as a large sign claims. After waiting in a ridiculously long queue, she manages to board the Understated Ulric. Her carriage begins to ascend.

Before she reaches the apex, an alarming grinding sound reaches her ears, and the entire ride begins to shudder violently. After a quick look around, Bela sees it: the mechanism holding the center of the Big Wheel in place is starting to detach! There cannot be more than a couple minutes left.

Bela throws open the door to her carriage and tries to catch the attention of two fellow detectives wandering down below. They look up as she gesticulates wildly, and quickly comprehend the situation. They take off at a run.

Mission 2 will consist of THREE team members.

Bela, the team leader, has been given one advantage to distribute to whomever she sees fit. It is:

TAKE RESPONSIBILITY: Whoever receives this can take an unused plot card from another player; this can be used at any time.

Bela, please assign this ability when you're ready, and then propose a team.

Nice! I'll keep TAKE RESPONSIBILITY for myself (I was hoping for a more allegiance-reveal-y power, but oh well) and I propose a team of myself, Sal, and Zara.

I think the mission 1 team+one combination is the best we can go with given the information we have right now. I don't really mind it if this team is voted down, we can afford to look at a few team proposals, and picking a team of 3 when there are only 3 Resistance players in the game is tricky. We don't really have much info at all. I'm fairly sure that Sal is Resistance. At least one of Zara and snopes is a spy. And I'm not sure where that leaves Aspen, I guess I think she's a spy as much as I think that it's unlikely both Zara and snopes are spies. If anybody has any thoughts, please feel free to share them. Now comes the trickier parts, and we can't really sit around quiet.

And...um, I'm sorry about the clue canister Zara, the peanuts really required ALL of my attention. I'll make sure to hoard all the other canisters I find though.

You are right Bela, Zara and I are not both spies because I am Resistance. Now if you are the other spy, you already know this and picking Zara for the mission would be a good move as we all might assume Zara was the saboteur.

The longer AspenK stays quiet though, the more my curiosity grows. Is she being quiet because she has the clear conscience of the Resistance or is it because she's hiding out after loosening the screws on the Big Wheel mechanism?

I've heard whispers that Sal is hiding out on the USS Sleuthetania which is, ironically, a part of the Underground Spy Railroad. I'm putting out feelers now for any information as to why he might be onboard.

Ignore BKP. I had to send this post by letter carrier as I am out of town right now and I mistakenly used BKP's letterhead instead of my own. Here is the same message on my own letterhead.

Ah, that makes it much clearer, miss snopes. :P

I agree with you on Aspen; her silence has left me with nothing to go on. If you are Resistance, Aspen, please tell us we should have you on the team, or *something*. Call somebody a spy, it's fun!

What team do you think would be a good one to go with? Anybody, everybody can answer this one, you probably have a different point of view on the whole thing.
