After years of anticipation, the Battery Boardwalk has finally opened its doors to the general public. The residents of Sleuthville come streaming in through the ticket booth--a line stretching as far as the eye can see. Among those gaining entry is a group of elite detectives with complimentary day passes to the attractions, invited specifically to keep an eye on things. A week prior to opening, the higher-ups at the Boardwalk had received anonymous threats of sabotage and murder if the Boardwalk was not torn down immediately. However, the proprietor was not one to submit to intimidation. Thus, on opening day, a group of highly-ranked detectives were tasked with keeping the park safe.

Unfortunately, there have been rumors floating around that some in the ranks of the elite had been approached by the mysterious threat-maker, and were now working for him to guarantee the day would end in disaster. It is said only those who turned to the dark side knew who the others were; everyone else had to eye each other with suspicion and make their own judgements. Although the team has been compromised, there is no time to vet and assemble another one on such short notice. Yet the day is young and there are plenty of opportunities to ensure opening day is a success.

The detectives’ job this fine day is to make the rounds of the park and keep an eye out for any suspicious or potentially dangerous activities. If opening day goes off without a hitch, the Boardwalk is sure to bring in millions, and the detectives would stand to receive a substantial cut for their services. But if it were to fail, then Sleuthville would be plunged into financial ruin and return to the days of never-ending guilty clients and exorbitant Shady fees. Oh no.

Will the Battery Boardwalk’s grand opening be an unparalleled success, or will it go down in flames accompanied by nothing but the screams of disappointed visitors? Stay tuned to find out in this installment of The Resistance.

I have received a PM from The Announcer, informing me of the allegiance of ms snopes.

If I understand correctly, there are 2 spies and each knows who the other is. From this they can easily work out who the Resistance members are. As a member of the resistance there is therefore no logic in my withholding the allegiance of the person revealed by the overheard conversation.

~ ms snopes is a spy.

It is no less difficult to select the other member for this first mission.

I will therefore go straight down the middle and choose: Bela Talbot III

Mission 1, Team 1

Team Leader: Zara
Team Proposal: Zara and Bela

It is now time for the players to vote to either approve or reject this mission proposal. When you do vote, please send me a PM stating "Mission 1, Team 1: YES/NO." 24 hours.

Please feel free to discuss.

Let's think about this for a minute.

Let me start by saying that I'm Resistance. While I know only my allegiance, I can see from the selection of this first team that Zara's allegiance doesn't look like it is Resistance. I'm already thinking she's a spy. She says she's going straight down the middle to choose Bela as her teammate in round 1, stepping over Sal like a muddy doormat. So I think Zara's a spy and knows that Bela is the other. This gives them a great option, they can both vote succeed and everyone will think they are clean, Resistance members. Then they can foil later missions. Or one can vote Sabotage and cause the mission to fail and we are let to guess (for now) which one is a saboteur. The second strategy gives them a failed mission (one mark up for the Spies) but would confirm at least one spy. The first is very sly though it gives up a Successful mission, we still know nothing after the first round. I have my eye on you two, if your mission flies.

Was I coming out of Big Lucy's when you spied me, miss snopes? I hate walking out of a dark night club and have the sun shining brightly in my face.

Here are the facts as I know them:

1) I am NOT a spy. I am Resistance.
2) Zara knows that I am Resistance but lied.
3) Zara is a spy or she wouldn't have lied.

That makes me wonder if Bela is the other spy (which Zara would know). I just can't decide if she would run the risk of exposing them both on this first mission or if she chose Bela to make us suspect Bela.

But I do know that Zara IS a spy.

Sal, we can agree to say it was Big Lucy's for now. That sun is bright early in the morning after a long night.

I like your reasoning, miss snopes. It begins to look more like Zara could be a spy. Her companion looks to be Bela, but there is a chance that miss snopes is a spy per the conversations posted. We have heard nothing from AspenK yet. The first time I was a spy I tried that "laying low" tactic. C'mon Aspen, what do you think, so far?

Well, Miss Snopes could be making people think Zara is a spy to deflect from the fact she actually is the spy. Zara could have lied, but wouldn't that give her up as a spy. I don't know.

It seems likely that at least one of them is a spy, because they have contradicted each other or it could be a very neat play to catch us off guard. It's tough for the spies to win, but if they are the spies or only one is a spy, I think we're gonna need more to go on.

It is for sure that at least one of them is a spy; they could both be spies too because if they make us choose sides, they'd have a spy on both sides. I'm Resistance, and I will say I like being picked. :D But this team seems to have *everybody* nervous, and really, there is no reason for *everybody* to be nervous - I'm pretty sure at least one of you has to be feigning. Sending my vote!
