How worthwhile is it to get this skill? Can you use it for any case, or just for featured cases?

It is very useful for every case, as it elminates one suspect, basically turns a false into a real.

Yes, awesome skill. There are other skills I would concentrate on first, especially getting either all levels of Interrogation/Intimidation for tough or all levels of Sweet Talking/Rule Bending for charming, but Research is great.
