Just curious how/when the research and fortune shortcut buttons appear as some of my detectives have them and some do not. All are subscribed, so is at a set experience level or a different method?

It's linked to your experience level, if memory serves I believe it's around 10,000 EXP that they kick in.

They are definitely useful, I agree. The idea behind their coming in later was to give newer players the chance to discover those features for themselves, then as a sign of their detective getting more experienced at solving cases they'd be able to take short cuts - I believe the text is slightly different when travelling to the fortune teller/research room via the buttons compared to travelling manually.

However, for the more experienced player who has started a new account I understand the frustration. What I used to do was add 'Research' and 'Fortune' links to my quick access browser book marks, like so:

Just copy the URL when either researching or having a fortune told and add it as a book mark, and it'll replicate the effect of the in game buttons which should serve until the in game buttons are available for whichever detective.
