Now that the Detective's Notes have been passed by the community survey, it's time to finish touching them up and add any features that were missing from the first implementation. I've done enough work on it now that I can show everyone where it's currently at, and you can all chime in and let me know what you think.

The biggest addition will be a witness evidence version of the notebook, shown in the following screen shot. It only displays suspects that have not been ruled out, so you can focus on going after your important targets. In the screen shot example if we were to ask Rashad Morcos about Wagdy Mikhail, then Rashad would then be crossed off Wagdy's list. I ultimately intend to include townie hints in this notebook.

The second picture I have shows the evidence list being listed on the suspect description page. The aim behind this is to allow players to read the suspect's description to see if they have the potential to match any of the evidence - therefore saving diligent Sleuths an alibi question on particular cases.

In the same vein of question saving, I'm currently thinking about including the option to rule out individual pieces of evidence. This might be handy for example if one deduces a piece of evidence must match an innocent suspect. Rather than using a question to check the evidence against the innocent suspect you'll instead be able to strike it out of the notes yourself to allow for easier reading.

Please do let me know what you think, and like before I'll post more screen shots as the development and consultation process continues.

Yes, the PE appearing on the suspect page can be relocated. It would be possible to pop it in the left hand column above or below the stress detection text. Unfortunately due to the way the pages are currently designed it's difficult to find a truly attractive place to pop it, but I'll create a new screen shot later that can show what it'd look like in different places.

Okay, here's a new position for the evidence list to be in, where it looks a little neater:

The PE listed like that would be great and I would love to have the WE there too. I always find myself going back and forth between case page and suspect just to make sure that's him.

Hilarious that in the picture, the evidence allows him to be investigated for a male as well as a female thread. But it's a good position imo and it makes more sense than above the questions. Too bad I couldn't make the suggestion due to no time, but I'm glad Bela caught it and that it's now positioned better :)

Keep up the good work Yeti!

As per Vulkie's mistake... it may be a bit confuddling for people to see that list and assume it's a list of evidence against that person, instead of just the evidence collected at the Crime Scene. I'm still a proponent for doing the logical thing, letting the boxes persist through the PE and suspect pages. Personally, I think logical design is about making things scan well. Always looking to the same place for the same thing, and limiting the amounts of places you have to look. eg the townies toolbar. It's up the top, always. That is great!!

Sorry about the radio silence on this thread. Things have been a little hectic. I've done some more work on the detective's notes that I can now show you all. Sometimes in cases you find a piece of evidence that you know can't possibly match the murderer. By clicking on the evidence within the detective's notes evidence list you'll rule that evidence out. In the following screen shot two pieces of evidence have been ruled out:

http://s16.postimg.org/5u91ktswl/ruledout_evidence.png

If you've actually checked the evidence against a suspect, and found it hasn't matched, then the usual white cross out will be listed even when a piece of evidence has been ruled out. If you accidentally rule out a piece of evidence, through deductive error or the wrong click, it's possible to click the evidence again and "un-rule out" the evidence, as seen here:

http://s16.postimg.org/y5ulhvct1/unruledout_evidence.png

If you manually rule out a piece of evidence, it'll no longer appear on the physical evidence check lists for townies. I'm going to work on incorporating hints in the witness notes next.

Having the change in yellow is nice. Very yellow, but nice :D

Yess, very, very yellow. I wanted to make it absolutely clear that those bits of evidence had only been ruled out by yourself, and not through proving it by matching it to someone.

Back to the witness notes, hints have now been incorporated into them. If you get a hint informing you that a suspect has seen nothing, they'll automatically have all their suspects crossed out - as though you had asked them about those suspects - and "KN" placed to the right of their name in the witness notes. Those who do know something are also noted, and an "SS" popped to the right of their name:

The keen eyed among you will have noticed the new "Ask her about another suspect" link, a feature requested specifically by Jusmah but one which I'm sure we've all wished for at some stage or another.

Back tracking on the sheer quantity of yellow with ruled out evidence. It's too much, even for me. So I've kept the yellow in the evidence list, and turned the evidence listed directly beneath suspects to the grey colour used to indicate ruled out suspects.

When you find a piece of witness evidence it'll now be highlighted in the witness notes, much in the same manner as the physical evidence notes.

There's not really much more to do here in terms of actual development, so do mention if it seems like I've forgotten something or you'd like something else included.
