Testing Detective Notes Feature for a Week

Hello everyone.

As you may have noticed, there is a new look to a lot of the pages in the map section and some streamlined navigation. We tried pushing out this change a week or so ago, and ran into a few bugs and got some great suggestions from users. Hopefully this version addresses most of those concerns.

One thing that was noticed by a few Sleuths was that these changes broke the external Sleuth Helper utility. This led to a discussion about the possibility of replacing a lot of what SH offers inside the game, so that future game updates don't always need to be checked for compatibility.

If you want to read that whole discussion, it's here:
http://noir.playsleuth.com/map/cityhall/post.spy?id=36446

In response, our newly ordained code wrangler YetiFace put together a feature called "Detective's Notes" to try to provide a built-in alternative to Sleuth Helper.

You can find the Detective's Notes at the bottom of the Map page and also on the physical evidence analysis screen.

Since bringing this online represents a very big change to the core game play of Sleuth: Noir, we've decided to give Detective's Notes a try for ONE WEEK.

After a week, I'm going to put up a poll that will be open to all subscribers. We'll ask whether people want to keep the Detective's Notes around, and also offer a few options.

Please approach this with an open mind, but once you've given it a try feel free to leave honest opinions or suggestions on this thread.

In particular, if there are any specific changes to Detective's Notes that you'd like me to put on the poll at the end of the week, that would be very helpful.

Thank you soooo much to YetiFace for doing this work. And thank you all for making Sleuth Noir such a great place.

Iset - Hopefully the issue with things not being correctly struck off has been fixed with this last patch. We're still uncertain about what's going on with the bribe issue. Regarding the bribe issue it seems more like a "double click" issue on the physical evidence page, and I can't replicate this issue in my testing environment - it seems to just exist for the live game. Hopefully we can pin down whatever it is soon, but one thing is for certain - it's really weird.

Bela - He means that if you check a "Hair" as opposed to a "Straight/Curly Hair" against a suspect, the hair will now be struck out if it doesn't match, and if it does match then it'll remain as a "Hair" and be struck off everyone's evidence list except of course the suspect it matches.

Shangri-La should have only been an issue immediately after logging into the game, so if you checked your detective page and then clicked on the map again, it should have started working again, accounting for the on/off nature. Now it works properly, you know, like it did before I touched it. ;)

REGARDING BRIBING/DOUBLE-CLICK ISSUE:

I was previously using Firefox whilst experiencing this problem, but I've found that switching to Chrome has resolved it and things are working normally again.

Yes, Chrome does not have the bugs that Firefox did. I rarely use Chrome, but I guess it will be my Sleuth browser from now on! Thank you, Yeti!

I am really loving the detective notes! I rarely used the helper, because for me, it felt like it solved the case for you. You can literally barely pay attention and just click where needed and tada! Done. Dreadfully dull.

The notes allow you to think more and, in turn, get more enjoyment out the game.

Now, all I need is something sharp and pointy to get suspects and townies to give me more information.

I fully intend to get Firefox back on the road, so we can return to it soon. :)

I'm glad the Notes feature is going well for you, particularly now you're on Chrome. I was very keen for the Notes to not go beyond basic recording, so I'm really happy that's working out as well.

I'm glad that improvements and updates are being made to Sleuth. It's a great game and I hope it stays around for a long time. Thank you Yeti for updates.

Regarding the notes section... when a townie says "no. not this person", the item I have checked (thread, hair, etc) does not get crossed off in the notes section. Is this a bug or the way it is supposed to be?

You're very welcome for the updates BadAss. I hope this is just the second of many to come.

The evidence should be crossed off in the Notes if you've checked it against a suspect and it does not match. Up until two days ago there was a bug where if you hadn't further identified a piece of evidence, that is you just found a hair but did not know if it was curly or straight, it didn't register properly in the Notes but that should have been resolved now.
