Testing Detective Notes Feature for a Week

Hello everyone.

As you may have noticed, there is a new look to a lot of the pages in the map section and some streamlined navigation. We tried pushing out this change a week or so ago, and ran into a few bugs and got some great suggestions from users. Hopefully this version addresses most of those concerns.

One thing that was noticed by a few Sleuths was that these changes broke the external Sleuth Helper utility. This led to a discussion about the possibility of replacing a lot of what SH offers inside the game, so that future game updates don't always need to be checked for compatibility.

If you want to read that whole discussion, it's here:
http://noir.playsleuth.com/map/cityhall/post.spy?id=36446

In response, our newly ordained code wrangler YetiFace put together a feature called "Detective's Notes" to try to provide a built-in alternative to Sleuth Helper.

You can find the Detective's Notes at the bottom of the Map page and also on the physical evidence analysis screen.

Since bringing this online represents a very big change to the core game play of Sleuth: Noir, we've decided to give Detective's Notes a try for ONE WEEK.

After a week, I'm going to put up a poll that will be open to all subscribers. We'll ask whether people want to keep the Detective's Notes around, and also offer a few options.

Please approach this with an open mind, but once you've given it a try feel free to leave honest opinions or suggestions on this thread.

In particular, if there are any specific changes to Detective's Notes that you'd like me to put on the poll at the end of the week, that would be very helpful.

Thank you soooo much to YetiFace for doing this work. And thank you all for making Sleuth Noir such a great place.

Ok, Yeti fixed a couple small issues with the Detective's Notes on the physical evidence page.

We'll continue looking into the weird bribing bug, but as noted, the bribe actually does work. You just need to look at either the Notes or the Case File to find out what they said :)

If anyone is logging in at Shangri-La today and finds they can't access the locations there, please load this page then try again:

I've been having a similar type of bug to the bribe issue. When I use my intimidation skill for me or MamaTerra uses her charm skill, sometimes it says

"You can only use [skill] once per per person" (I can't remember the exact wording and I clicked out of the screen already)

But the skill has still worked. The problem is at first you don't realize it, so you try the bribe. Unnecessarily. The bribe bug only shows up sporadically now. But almost always after the skill bug pops up.

This feature is great, Yeti.

As for the bribes, mine worked fine and had no bugs.
Something that I really liked was the way suspects got crossed out when you'd checked a PE against them, so no accidental re-clicking of the same suspect occurred. :D

I'm all for this feature to find its way into Sleuth permanently. :)

It is great! I even risked quitting a Nemmy case for the sake of improvement - and solved it. I'm still a bit slow, but I'm learning. I haven't encountered one single bug, everything is working beautifully. I vote aye :).

Okay, I am having the same issues with Iset Hekate as I did with my other detective, M Roux. Here is what I have noticed thus far:

The bribe issue only happens when comparing suspects to evidence, not when bribing non-PE townies for alibis.

When I use my toughness and stress detection tells me they will answer one more question before they clam, they clam on the next question and I must pay. So, I should get two more questions, but, I am only getting one.

When the bribe issue happens, sometimes the notes reflect that last question asked and sometimes they don't. The suspects name will always be marked off if I go into the townie screen and click on the question asked, it will have the suspect I asked about marked off. But, it won't show up in the notes. Sometimes. It does show up when the evidence matches the suspect and occasionally, when it doesn't. Sorry, it confusing, but I do get both.

Thank you for all your hard work, Yeti and Ben! <3

Regarding the second fix, do you mean

(i) previously un-analysed hair is corrected to curly/straight and accordingly removed from some suspect boxes in the notes when you find out it it was curly/straight (either by matching it to somebody or with the help of the crime lab or something?) or

(ii) that, after you check a hair against a suspect and find out that it does not match, it's struck off in that suspect's box the way it's struck off that PE list when you're asking that particular townie?

My Shangri-La map was working on and off yesterday (the list thing came up once, and after that it was the normal one), but thanks for fixing it up for sure, Yeti and Ben :)

Iset - Hopefully the issue with things not being correctly struck off has been fixed with this last patch. We're still uncertain about what's going on with the bribe issue. Regarding the bribe issue it seems more like a "double click" issue on the physical evidence page, and I can't replicate this issue in my testing environment - it seems to just exist for the live game. Hopefully we can pin down whatever it is soon, but one thing is for certain - it's really weird.

Bela - He means that if you check a "Hair" as opposed to a "Straight/Curly Hair" against a suspect, the hair will now be struck out if it doesn't match, and if it does match then it'll remain as a "Hair" and be struck off everyone's evidence list except of course the suspect it matches.

Shangri-La should have only been an issue immediately after logging into the game, so if you checked your detective page and then clicked on the map again, it should have started working again, accounting for the on/off nature. Now it works properly, you know, like it did before I touched it. ;)

REGARDING BRIBING/DOUBLE-CLICK ISSUE:

I was previously using Firefox whilst experiencing this problem, but I've found that switching to Chrome has resolved it and things are working normally again.
