After a period of absence, THE RESISTANCE has returned to the Sleuth boards with a healthy Yeti-flavoured taste.

For those unfamiliar, The Resistance is a social game of limited information. Players are split into two teams, one team being true members of the resistance, and the other being spies who have infiltrated the group. Over a course of five missions, resistance members aim to have three missions succeed, whereas spies aim to sabotage three of them. The only way for players to communicate with each other will be through this thread.

I'll post a detailed set of rules once the sign up process is over, but to give you an idea of how the game goes the first The Resistance thread on the Sleuth boards is here: http://noir.playsleuth.com/map/cityhall/post.spy?id=34582&first_record=302111

We'll need five to ten players in order to start the game. I'd like to keep this game flowing, so before putting your name down please make sure that to the best of your knowledge you'll be able to log in at least once a day for the next two weeks. You will not receive financial payment for playing THE RESISTANCE.

After fuming for a few hours over the failed mission, Devi was sure that she knew who the spy was. Now that she was preparing her weapons for yet another mission she breathed out a sigh of relief because they still had a chance to win this whole thing.

Wrapping the cote around her, Devi pulled up the hood over her head, tucked one gun in her knee-high boots and another in her pocket and moved towards the meeting spot.

Just within visual range, Soheir lit up another doobie as she watched Devi make her way to Turtle's designated meet-up spot. Even from this distance she could tell that Devi was quite pissed off, and rightfully so. She shook her head at not being able to accompany her if the mission was approved, and wished with all her might that the spies were outnumbered on the upcoming vote.

A sudden tap on the shoulder made her turn around only to find a policeman with fixed eyes on what she was smoking. She smiled, took out a 10 LE note and offered it to his waiting hand.

"Actually, keep the money and I'll take a drag of that." said the policeman.
"Here, keep it," said Soheir smiling, "Something tells me I'll need something stronger for what's to come."

I've read Lou Hoyle's deductions (brilliant reasoning by the way!) . Correct me if I'm wrong, but it irresponsible to send a mission out that is guaranteed to contain either one or two spies? Even a single spy guarantees failure, and it seems to me like the decent chance of catching one spy is outweighed by the likelihood of a second failed mission.

I'll follow the group's decision if we do proceed but I'm just not sure that this roster is the best approach. Even though I'm on it, I'm not 100% sure I understand the rationale for each of us being there.

Mission 3 Team 1

Soheir Hassan NO
DevilishWings YES
Turtledove YES
Lou Hoyle YES
Sal Iva YES
Mac Kerrell NO

YES: 4
NO: 2

The mission has been approved. Sal, Devi, Mac and Turtledove, please message me privately with your SUCCESS/SABOTAGE votes. Resistance members must vote for SUCCESS, but spies have the added option of voting SABOTAGE should they wish.

Mac, you won me over with that vote. That's exactly how I felt. Looks like it's out of our hands now, though. Good luck on the mission. I really hope you're not a spy because at this point I really need a second person to trust. :)

Soheir what about Devi? correct me but didn't you confirm her as resistiance too?

Mac everything you said is true from a certain point of view. I did say that this is a risky play, but at least this spreads the risk to both teams and if the spies play it safe the resistiance gets the win. and the smart play for the spies would be to play it safe. And I get to pick the next team and I'm fairly confidient we will get a win or the spies will have to vote it down.

Oh and because we had to choose four members for the team it was almost certain for us to assign a spy to the team, without knowing exactly who they were, we couldn't eliminate the chance or even lower the probability.

The only sure way to avoid making mistakes is to have no new ideas.

Yes, Lou, that's why I said 'second person to trust' to Mac - with Devi being the first. Are you nitpicking just a little? Is it because you know I'm Resistance? ;)

I don't expect this mission to succeed at all. In fact, I'll be very surprised if it does. And that's because the odds indicate that there's at least one spy involved, and they're free to sabotage the mission without it backfiring suspicion on them.

Remaining Resistance members, whomever you are, listen up: it's time to pay attention before the spies pull a fast one on us. Vote wisely. :)

Soheir my apologies no I'm not trying to nitpick, I just didn't understand that you hadn't included yourself when you made the earlier, for what it's worth I will be suprisied if this mission is a not a failure, but I couldn't think of anything better given our circumstances, my hope is that both spies vote to sabotage that way we know both were on that team. For the record I'm believing you that Devi is resistiance and I'm looking forward to getting a better power card on the next round, hopefuly something that will reveal and alliance or at least hove they voted. I would say that as it stands at the moment the breaks have favored the spies.

Agreed. No apologies please, I was just kidding about the nitpicking. ;)

I don't know if anyone has played Mafia before - it's basically the face-to-face version of this (except the spies are able to kill of a Resistance member each round, lol). So the problem I'm having here is trying to read people without being able to SEE them - I can't study body language, shaky hands, exchanged glances or blushing, lying, red faces, hehee. I'm just trying to figure out how I'll be able to deduce that someone is a spy at all.

I'm going to start keeping a record of the votes and mission results to better keep a tab on everyone's behaviour; because this isn't working for me. Plus, as I've already demonstrated, my memory sucks, lol. :D

Good luck with your team, Lou. :)
