Greetings, people of Sleuthville! The time has come once again for the annual Sleuthville Arch-Villain Hunt Tournament. This year, in an attempt to change things up a bit, I’m happy to announce the return of the one-on-one matchups! Oldies and newcomers alike are welcome to participate. What better way to stave off boredom than a little friendly competition?

The format will be 16 detectives, each randomly paired off by a magic baseball hat to face one other person. For this competition, players going through Cairo will have a day taken off their totals. The fastest player(s) from each round will go on to the next round until a winner is determined. In the case of a tie (same day capture), both players will move on to compete in a triple threat matchup. Failed hunts will not count against you; you will not be disqualified. If you fail your hunt and would like to start another, you may, but the day count will start from the official start date of the round. The last one standing wins.

The rules:
- Either PM me or post here as soon as possible if you find that your hunt goes through Cairo, so I can keep accurate records.
- In the spirit of competition, trash-talking is allowed, just as long as it is friendly and appropriate.
- You may not PM me to ask for any AVH hunt help or advice.
- If you are unable to compete in a round for whatever reason, you are allowed to ask someone to sub in for you for that round only. This privilege may only be used once, and only in emergencies. The player who is subbing in for you may be anyone who is not competing in the current round, even someone who was not initially entered in the competition.

You may:
-travel to Shangri La the night before, but NOT start the hunt
-use a travel kit
-use head of faction privileges
-use agencies and apartments to swap gear

Oh, awesome job, Kallan, Jade and DW! :) I hope I'll have to congratulate more people later today, though :D

You both go on, Jade and DW, and in the next round, there will be three people competing against each other (one match-up) and all winners of that round (everybody who catches their villain) go on to the next one, and so on.

It's awesome to see newbies capturing their Villains like they do it every other day :D

Could the triple threat match up tie breaker be explained in a little more detail, please?

(The magic word) Hypothetically...

A vs. B --> B wins
C vs. D --> C wins
E vs. F --> A tie
G vs. H --> A tie

B, C, E, F, G and H move on to the next round. Randomly, it is decided that the next two matches will be (B vs. C vs. H) and (E vs. F vs. G). Suppose B wins round 1, and E and G finish on the same day and before F, the next round will be (B vs. E vs. G) with the winner...winning, the game. If, for example, B and G finish on the same day, before E, the next round will be (B vs. G).

So basically, go at it again and again and again, till (quite literally) there's only one person left standing (left with enough strength to stand...?). The winner wins :D The matching-up is totally random, and in this Tourney's case, as there have been two ties, there will be two matches with three people competing against each other, and two other matches with the (normal) two people going up against each other in the next round.

Disclaimer: This is just what *I* understood about the tie-breaker from what I saw in the previous Tourney. Many kindly souls have tried explaining to me, and this is all I could get :D If somebody could confirm or clarify about this, that would be great! :) I don't know if it always the two players who tied who play the match and compete against two other people...
People who play against two other people are not "abnormal".
The winner *does* win the game, most of the time.
Sometimes, non-winners might have some strength left, and they might manage to stand later on.

I've had to read through your post a few times, but I believe I now understand the concept. The four players left in one on one match ups seem like they have a distinct advantage over the ones in triple match ups.

Finally haha

The notorious criminal Frau Terpsichore Moriarty was brought to justice by Winterfell after a painstaking hunt in which the heroic detective successfully tracked the villain around the world.
