See if there is interest for this.

1. Each day I will post 10 questions, at random times of the day.
2. Each Quiz runs exactly 24 hours.
3. The first person that has all 10 questions right, wins. Or if no one has all questions right, the best one wins.
4. You can only post answers ONCE for the same quiz.
5. No cash involved. Just glory. :)

yes, a diamond is a gem stone. *grin*

I'm not giving answers yet, although I will make an adjustment to question #9. technically your answer is correct, although it wasn't the answer I'm looking for. So, a bonus point to whoever gives the answer I'm looking for.

Ok, I guess it's been pretty close to 24 hours. I'll give it a couple more hours and then will post the answers. So far, Secret Squirrel is the winner with 6 1/2 points. :) Didn't realize I was making this one so hard. Sorry, guys.

Ok. Here are the answers to the quiz:

1. Lapidary
2. cabochons are commonly cut into oval, round, square, rectangle and freeform, beads can be round, oval, square, rectangle, teardrop, etc and both can be faceted.
3. princess, marquise, round, heart, trillian, pear, oval, rectangle (sapphire cut), etc.
4. Carot (abbreviated ct.)
5. Agate (those pretty little ocean polished stones that litter most beaches and draw tourists to my neck of the woods in droves.) (And yes, my beaches have sand too. *grin*)
6. Jet is related to coal and was very popular during the Victorian Age. It's extremely light weight and can be mistaken for plastic. It is of similar chemical makeup to amber, being fossilized plant matter.
7. Moldavite It fell to earth around 160 million years ago and has only been found on the Czechoslovakian plains. It is technically a tectite (gem-like meteorite)
8. Fossilized dino doo (and is quite beautiful)
9. Thunder Egg (which, technically is a geode. However, all thunder eggs are geodes, but not all geodes are thunder eggs.
10. Diamond It has a hardness of 10
Bonus: Mohs. So, on the Mohs scale, Diamond is a 10 and Jet varies between 2-4. Talc is the softest at 1.

So, Secret Squirrel is the winner with 6 1/2 points. Congrats! *grin* I'll try to come up with something easier next time.

And thanks, SS, for noticing the new face. *grin* It was my great-aunt's. She doesn't really need it any more, so I borrowed it.

I think I like asking more than I like answering so here's something for those of us in another time zone... I still wanna know what the diff betweeen a stone, a gem stone and a gem is though DD/RM!

There's lots of novels / stories about Princes... see if you can name the authors [they're fairly easy... no really Greyling this one 'is'.]

(I dunno … Little Red Corvette was on the Radio in the car this morning… it’s how my mind works…)

Who wrote 'em...

1. The Prince and the Pauper
2. The Happy Prince
3. The Little Prince
4. The Prince
5. Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince
6. Prince Caspian
7. Prince of the Blood (think Magician)
8. Pericles, Prince of Tyre
9. The Frog Prince (original please)
10. Bring me the Head of Prince Charming (obscure I admit and may be considered a bonus point)

*grin* a gemstone is a gem stone. gem for short. gem meaning it has value as decorative wear usually once it has been transformed from it's natural state by cutting and/or polishing. Usually the term 'gem' is used for the higher value stones or 'precious'. Precious and semi-precious refers to value. So, turquoise is a semi-precious stone, and topaz is a precious stone or gem. And all of them down to 'Indian Love Stones' are just a bunch of rocks. Some prettier than others. :)
