Hi all!! Here's the answers:

1. Spaghetti is the Italian diminutive of 'spago', meaning string or twine, so it means little strings.

2. Linguini is Italian for little tongues.

3. Macaroni is a corruption of the Italian word 'maccherone', which has a couple of possible origins. One is from the Greek 'makaria', a kind of barley broth. The second is from the Italian word 'maccare', meaning to bruise or to crush, which refers to crushing the wheat grains needed to make pasta. This, in turn, probably comes from the Latin 'macerare'.

4. Vermicelli is Italian for little worms.

5. Fettucine is Italian for little ribbons.

6. Lasagna was probably derived from the Greek 'lasanon', meaning chamber pot. Later, it was borrowed by the Romans and turned into 'lasanum', meaning cooking pot, and referred to the pot that the dish was made in.

7. Ravioli is from the Italian verb, meaning to wrap.

8. Penne comes from the Italian word 'pennu', meaning feather or quill.

9. Manicotti is from the Italian word for muffs, but originally derives from the diminutive of 'manica', meaning sleeve.

10. Farfalle is Italian for butterfly.

11. Ziti comes from the Italian word for bridegrooms.

12. Gnocchi is the plural of 'gnocco', and is Italian for lumps.

13. Orecchiette is derived from the Italian word 'orecchio', meaning ear.

14. Lumache comes from another Italian word, 'lumaca', this time meaning snail.

15. Gemelli is Italian for twins.

Bonus
1. Maltagliati is Italian for badly cut.

2. Strozzapreti is Italian for priest choker. There are several legends behind the name.

And with 8 1/2 right, Sushi Kitty wins!! (Hands you a plate of farfalle and vermicelli, hoping you won't feel too lost without any eel in it.) Good job Sushi and Serges!! The cannoli and tirmisu are on me!!
