This is a thread about music. All kinds of music: classical, jazz, blues, rock, folk, film music... any kind you can think of. The questions can be about anything related to music: about composers, musicians (performers), styles/periods, musical forms, musical instruments, or about particular pieces or songs.

I'll start with a person.

Jazz? Blues? Traditional? Is the composer's name known?

It's generally thought of as jazz, though there are other influences. The composer is well known.

Other influences? Perhaps it's a part of an opera? Is it George Gershwin's "Summertime"?

Thanks for your good opinion, Cordy, but I think that we all make an excellent team ;).

The next one is also a song. Some may think it's a bit schmaltzy, but I love it, especially in its (probably) best-known interpretation.

Schmaltzy?

Was it sung by Barbara Steisand, Celine Dion or Bette Midler?

HA!

Not to my knowledge :). It was sung by many singers (there is also an instrumental jazz version) but it became famous because of the version I mentioned before. Hint: it was composed in the late 1950s and became a great hit in the early 1960s.
