This is a thread about music. All kinds of music: classical, jazz, blues, rock, folk, film music... any kind you can think of. The questions can be about anything related to music: about composers, musicians (performers), styles/periods, musical forms, musical instruments, or about particular pieces or songs.

I'll start with a person.

It is Aida, one of Verdi's most famous operas, along the ones you mentioned. In 2013 the world celebrates the 200th anniversary of the birth of Giuseppe Verdi and Richard Wagner, two of the greatest opera composers of all time, who were arch rivals in their lifetimes.

Bravo, Cordy!

I confess that the reason I remembered Aida is that I got taken to see a production as a teenager and totally disgraced myself by getting a fit of the giggles just as someone was about to be sentenced to an unpleasant death... :)

OK, how about a song?

Is it "Happy Birthday"?

Just kidding. Is it rock, pop, or classical?

It's generally thought of as jazz, though there are other influences. The composer is well known.

Other influences? Perhaps it's a part of an opera? Is it George Gershwin's "Summertime"?
