My proposition is to post a line from a movie, one you think most people would know. (not too obscure)

The goal is to name the movie. You can add who said it, the character or the actor or both if you want.

I'll start with an easy one to get this going.

"My father made him an offer he couldn't refuse."

Cordy, you're good. You're also right!! ;-D Good job!! ;-D

The line is a retort from the main character, Jim Craig (Tom Burlinson), after he catches his nemesis spying on him while he's teaching his love interest, Jessica Harrison (Sigrid Thorton), how to tie a "Tom Fools' Knot." It was released in approx. 1981 (perhaps 1982, my memory's not wonderful, as you know ;-), and was the revival of the western in the U.S., even though the movie is from Australia. It also starred Kirk Douglas in a dual role, Harrison (Jessica's father) and Spur, his estranged twin. It's based on a poem written by Andrew "Banjo" Patterson, the same man who wrote the words for the folk classic "Waltzing Matilda". It involves a cattle drive and a stampede of "Brumbies" (the Australian word for a wild horse or mustang). And it garnered numerous international awards, including an Academy Award nomination for Douglas.

If you haven't seen it, and like westerns, I'd reccommend checking it out. ;-)

Congratulations, Cordy!! ;-D ;-D ;-D

So, where to next?? ;-)

Amazing how blank your mind goes in this situation... :)

I think I'll go back to the original idea for this thread and pick something that might be a bit easier, to see if we can move things along for a while. How about:

"It's beyond my control".

:) I have no idea. But, just to get the ball rolling (even if it's so wrong, it makes you fall off your seat...)
It...sounds like a line in a...political movie! You know, the ones where you tell 'em to do something, but they go, sorry, I can't do that, it's beyond my control...

Oh, wait. That's real life...never mind, carry on ;D

Sounds like a sci-fi movie.

Neither politics nor sci-fi.

Comedy? Romance?

Definitely not comedy, and I wouldn't really call it romance, either, though it is about relationships between men and women.

Men are from Mars, women are from venus?
Forrest Gump?

How about a drama? documentary?

Has it won any awards?

Neither of those titles. It is a drama.

It was nominated for seven Oscars and won three, and nominated for ten BAFTAS, of which it won two. Various other awards as well.
