Do additional evidence (handedness, type of hair) count as evidence?

Hi.

I am wondering of I can use Handedness and type of hair as evidence. I just had a case in which I had only one person in the No Alibi/ Fake Alibi with straight hair. I had also found straight hair at the crime scene. I still went through the barber to see if the hair was that person's. It turned out that it wasn't, but the murderer was that person.

So I'm curious as to how much this affects the actual detective process.
