This is a variation on a theme of Francesca's "Who am I?" thread. The rules are the same, only in this case it would probably be best if we asked one question at a time :).

What happened to the city?

Floods? Earthquakes? Volcano? Fire? Disease? War? No idea? Other nautral disaster?

Is it iconic? eg pyramids, Sydney Opera House, Taj Mahal

I am so stumped :)

It was founded more than 2000 years ago. As for what happened to it, I think there was the odd earthquake, but there was a general slow decline, probably mostly due to the fact that the sea receded. Wikipedia thinks it clung on till the 15th century. :)

One of its buildings was particularly famous.

Asia's a big place.
