This is a variation on a theme of Francesca's "Who am I?" thread. The rules are the same, only in this case it would probably be best if we asked one question at a time :).

I'll start:

Its history goes back more than one thousand years.

No, not Okinawa :).

It is:

4. In this solar system
5. A real place
6. In Asia
7. In Japan
8. Population over 100,000
9. Population over 300,000

It is not:

1. In Southern Hemisphere
2. In Western Hemisphere
3. Somewhere else in the universe
4. A mythical place
5. In Iran
6. In India
7. In China
8. In Russia
9. Tokyo
10. Hiroshima
11. Nagasaki
12. Mount Fuji
13. Okinawa

Okay, I'm going away and I want to pass it on to someone else, so I'll give you a small hint: Tokyo became the capital of Japan only in the 19th century ;).

Can't wait to see what you come up with, Cordelia! Hopefully, it's not History, or Geography mixed with History...

Hmm, hard to think of a city which isn't geography mixed with history... ;)

OK. I'll start you off by saying it's a city which has had more than one name.

That's history! Just kidding; now that I think of it, there aren't really many cities, that are distinguishable by anything other than their history, so you're right. Still, I'll let somebody else take that question :) You're welcome :P
