If I have equipment that doesn't fit my archetype, does that damage my skills? For example, I have a black coat at the moment which is +2 toughness, but I am smart and charming. Should I get rid of the coat?

You really only need tough or charming skills for the game. There are some recent threads in the newbie section that go into greater detail. You might dig through them.

Ben (he's the WONDERFUL guy who made the game, right?) definitely should. I've read back a couple of months on all the message boards but I still have loads of questions which I'm sure have come up a million times before!!

Hmm. Guys in leopardskin fezes have never really done it for me, I'm afraid :-) I have a mad crush on the *game* though!!

Can I ask about agencies? Someone asked me to join one. I didn't even know what they are! They said something about treasure hunts and having fun. I looked at the help file and that didn't explain much. Are they a way to get more cases, or just another kind of message board or -- I don't know what!

The are a group of detectives who work together. They help each other out, work on treasure hunts (which is a competitive experience), and have a lot of fun.

They do have there own message boards, but they are much more than that! They have places to store your cases for later use! There is a crime lab, and even a locker to store/share equipment!

Agencies are groups of subscribed detectives. there are many excellent reasons to join. you have access to other equipment, can get help from other detectives and can do hunts. take a look at the case screen. I've never been on a hunt but it sounds like fun. there is a recruiting message board. You can also click on various detectives to get more info. Some agencies have crime labs also!
