... help required, ironically.

Is anyone else using this programme to help with their Sleuthing? If so, are you having problems where it keeps crashing - namely:

"Error: Document couldn't be saved to stream for parsing. Sleuth Helper will exit to prevent inconsistency." Straight after logging in.

Even if you can't help with this, do you know of any other solvers which I could use instead?

Cheers
MDL

I get an error message from time to time on the thing, yes. (No clue remembering what the actual error message says, sorry.) But it doesn't happen constantly with me, just once in a blue moon or so.

My first question is, which version of the Automated Sleuth Helper (ASH) are you using? The original one was made by an English fellow, and you could only access it via a Dutch or English website thingamabob. The most recent version has been updated by Ctown28, and is/(was) available on Dawg Pound's website.

The reason why I ask is, some of us started having trouble with the older version of the ASH, and had to redownload it from Ctown. Also, there may be other programming differences between the two that I don't know about (I'm the World's Worst Expert when it comes to computer stuff, esp. Programming. ;-). It might be worth your while to contact Ctown, and see if he can help you.

As for other helpers, yes, there are several around. Check out the Sleuth Community Site, and see what you can find there. There have been five or six helpers floating around here at one time or another. The most popular has probably been the Dr. Watson one. The big problem with all of them are, none of them (apart from the ASH), are automated. So you have to fill in all the info yourself. (Ick. ;-)

Not sure if that helps any, or not?? I do hope you find an answer to your problem. ;-)

Good luck,

Breit

Thanks for the reply, Breit.

I think I must have the one from the Dutch website. I'm going to try reinstalling it before anything else.

I did try looking for the Ctown update on the Dawg Pound website but the link I found is a dead link - and the DP website doesn't have much on it now.

If all else fails, I'll have to cobble together some sort of Excel spreadsheet. Oh the horror!

Ahhhh - a possible break through. Clicking on the menu and selecting "Disable Parsing" seems to have worked.

So far.

Hmmm now I've done that, it's no longer automated & there's nowhere to enter the information.

Okay, I'm giving up on the ASH. Time for plan b - which is to find a plan b.

Hmm Odd, I've never had any issue and I have the original version from Pidgeot!!

Melanie, contact michael@birdiesoft.dk and he should be able to help you along.

I've had glitches from time to time but they seem to disappear on their own. I just give it a little time :)

And it's back on the blink ... sigh. And this is the version that Ctown28 sent me. Same error message as before.

Eventually I get an Access Violation message, but it clears out on its own.
What's your version?
