Is anyone else noticing a ridiculous amount of clams lately? I just had three PE townies clam on the first question and three suspects clam as well. I've been noticing this for the last four or five days.
Run of bad luck or has this been happening to others?

I'm certainly finding this on current AVH. A few weeks since I've done one and until now everything has been ok. As soon as I started this hunt though it's been clam, clam, clam all the way.

I've noticed it as well. I'll encounter a case that should be easy, and have to quit because NO ONE will talk to me. I had chalked it up to bad luck.

No tinkering with case difficulty that I know of.

Is it possible there's a bug somewhere? Its really only been the last four or five days.

I too have been facing this sometimes, for intermediate cases. Suspects clam up after ONE question. I mean, I can't even get the names of other possible leads and suspects.
Townies clam up after Two questions. And the fact that I can interrogate/sweet talk them only once doesn't help at all. I too have had to quit a case.
If this is for intermediate cases, then what on earth will happen if I try for a harder case?

Lawlietine--
Try doing some easy cases for a while. Yeah, I know, they don't give you as much of the experience that the Intermediates do, but you also won't have people clam on you.
See if you can build up a couple of skill points (yeah, I know, it's gonna take a while; be patient ;-), and then get one of the Sweet-Talking or Rule-Bending skills. Sweet-talking works on suspects, and Rule-Bending works on Townspeople. Because you're Charming and Smart, you'll get discounts on charming and smart skills, but not on Tough ones. As you get more and more of the "interview" skills (Sweet-talking and Rule-bending), dealing with cases in general should get easier. I hope. ;-)
(By the way, Biggie, Summer, Squirrel, and Carolyn are all talking about dealing with Almost Impossible cases. Those are a bit farther down the road for you. Like waaaay farther down the road. Translation: Do NOT Panic. Eventually, you'll be sloggin' along with the rest of us like this was yesterday's news. Keep going. You're doing great!! ;-)
Hope that helps a bit,
Breit

Oh dear, now I feel a little embarrassed for mentioning my amateurish woes when the experts are battling out Almost Impossible cases, which are indeed in the extremely distant future for me. And thanks for the advice & encouragement Breitkat, it's wonderful as always :)

Now that I do attempt almost impossible cases, I will report the problem of excessive clamming. I mean, I don't know what it's supposed to be like, but I imagine it's rather difficult without an agency to fall back on.
There's not a single suspect or townie who doesn't clam up on the first question. Not one. And from the pattern of things, people answer a maximum of 3 questions after unclamming. So if you happen to use up 2 questions on alibi and motives, and you have 6-7 bad alibis....

Yep, that's the joy of AI cases! You need to rely on reducing the number of suspects with the physical evidence as much as you can.
Hint: Don't forget that most of your PE belongs to the people with real alibis and sometimes it's possible to figure out who...
