I recently found an awesome party/social game called "The Resistance" that my friends and I love to play. The premise is very similar to games like "mafia" and "werewolf"; you have a group of players, in which some of them are working against the group and have knowledge the others don't.

In "The Resistance", you are basically members of an underground organization known as "The Resistance" attempting to destroy the establishment. However, among you there are counter-agents, or "Imperial Spies" who are working to sabotage your efforts. The spies know who they are, as well as who else is a spy, but will for all intents and purposes appear to be working toward the goals of the Resistance.

The game takes place over a series of 5 "missions". The Resistance is trying to complete 3 missions successfully, while the spies are attempting to sabotage 3 missions. First one to 3 wins.

Cannot do any harm posting this link I think. We all want to play this game right and play it properly, so any help would be great I think.

Well one thing I read as a good strategy is for the Resistance to vote down the first few missions because we are running blind without any info, and the proposals made by different people, and then how people vote on those missions gives us a little information to work with before we say go ahead and go on one.

For example, I think Marc's actions here are highly suspect - the not taking one of those cards for himself is odd. If I had that opportunity I would have jumped on it because I have nothing right now. And if we let a couple more votes go through we may see some more things that give us pause by certain players. I don't think that Serges said anything about this, but I think the officially game rules are that if 5 missions in a row are voted down, the Spies automatically win the game, so we would have to approve the fifth mission no matter what. And taking into account who number 5 on the list is should also factor into how we do this voting if we are getting the feeling they might be a Spy. But I'm not sure if that applies to this version of the game though.

This game is already making me paranoid.

All this talk about Jay being a spy and I ask myself, is this a case of the lady doth protest too much Nicnic? Could it be you're accusing poor innocent people to take the SPOTLIGHT off yourself?

Would you do that to me Nic? Would you?

Oh yeah, that's right Nic, I have the SPOTLIGHT card...what will happen if that SPOTLIGHT is turned on you? Eh? Eh?

And Cekuray, all this I want to play this game right business... even if it means accusing poor Jay of being a spy and hurting his delicate feelings? Poor, poor Jay. This is just a game? Is it? Is it?

Yeh, I don't trust that Jay guy at all. At all.

Who's Jay? lol

I think you mean Marc, dear.

So tell me..... if you are Resistance, you don't find Marc's actions completely head scratch worthy? If so, why not?

I'd also like to hear Marc's explanation for his choices, though before I permanently label him :-)

As to posting outside links about the game, its perfectly fine by me. The more people understand the game the better!

Also, you're right about 5 rejected mission proposals in a row causing the spies to win. I thought I mentioned that earlier, sorry if I didn't.

And I think that Jay is a nickname for Jason Arends in this context.

OK. Here's a forum I found that is doing something similar and these people seem to be well-versed players. Here is their current game in progress:

OK If Danny Mack was talking about Jason Arends as Jay, now I am super suspicious of Danny Mack because Jason hasn't done anything yet and there's no reason to be suspicious of him. Hmmmm.....

Even though I was aloud to go, it wasn't something I considered doing with myself involved. I do admit, it might make it that much harder to figure out who spies are and who isn't. Let's just hope the mission is a success.

Serges... you did post about the 5 voted down missions thing. I think I didn't understand until after I figured out the game a bit.

Marc.... what about not giving yourself one of the powers? Why didn't you do that? ;-)

And also, Illicit, you you want to share with us what was revealed about Jason Arends?
