I recently found an awesome party/social game called "The Resistance" that my friends and I love to play. The premise is very similar to games like "mafia" and "werewolf"; you have a group of players, in which some of them are working against the group and have knowledge the others don't.

In "The Resistance", you are basically members of an underground organization known as "The Resistance" attempting to destroy the establishment. However, among you there are counter-agents, or "Imperial Spies" who are working to sabotage your efforts. The spies know who they are, as well as who else is a spy, but will for all intents and purposes appear to be working toward the goals of the Resistance.

The game takes place over a series of 5 "missions". The Resistance is trying to complete 3 missions successfully, while the spies are attempting to sabotage 3 missions. First one to 3 wins.

I find this matchup suspect. I also find it suspect that both illicit and Marc wanted to see Jason Arends allegiance as opposed to Molly's.... like they already knew what Molly was and there's only one way that could happen.

So right now I'm leaning towards the spy team being Marc, Illicit, and Molly. In either case I don't trust Marc because there's a reason he didn't want one of those juicy cards for himself and the only reasonable reason is because he already has all the info he needs.

Vote sent.

I agree with nicnic about pointing to jason arends. Also about Marc being a spy. If he was resistance operative he would've choose himself for going in the mission. So, Marc is a spy and for this reason I have doubts as well on this mission. Vote sent as well.

So, I can play the spotlight card for only this turn? Or can I use it in the next mission? Am I allowed to talk with others on whom to use it on? And do I wait until the mission is accepted?

Vote sent.

Danny,
You can use your ability during any mission in the game. You may discuss its use publicly if you like. And yes, I'll prompt you after a mission is approved to choose whether or not to use it.

I've received votes from 4 of our 8 players so far. After I receive all 8 votes, I will post the voting results and we'll move forward, either running the mission or having a new leader pick a new team.

As a reminder:

M. Lacrimosa has elected to send a team consisting of:

(Mission 1, Team 1)
Molly Maltese
Jason Arends
Special_K

Feel free to discuss this proposal on the board, but your vote must be submitted via PM to me. Your PM should state Mission 1, Team 1, and your vote of "Yes" or "No" to the proposed team.

Serges, am I allowed to post a link to another one of these games and stuff I read to give everyone an idea on how to play?

Cannot do any harm posting this link I think. We all want to play this game right and play it properly, so any help would be great I think.

Well one thing I read as a good strategy is for the Resistance to vote down the first few missions because we are running blind without any info, and the proposals made by different people, and then how people vote on those missions gives us a little information to work with before we say go ahead and go on one.

For example, I think Marc's actions here are highly suspect - the not taking one of those cards for himself is odd. If I had that opportunity I would have jumped on it because I have nothing right now. And if we let a couple more votes go through we may see some more things that give us pause by certain players. I don't think that Serges said anything about this, but I think the officially game rules are that if 5 missions in a row are voted down, the Spies automatically win the game, so we would have to approve the fifth mission no matter what. And taking into account who number 5 on the list is should also factor into how we do this voting if we are getting the feeling they might be a Spy. But I'm not sure if that applies to this version of the game though.

This game is already making me paranoid.

All this talk about Jay being a spy and I ask myself, is this a case of the lady doth protest too much Nicnic? Could it be you're accusing poor innocent people to take the SPOTLIGHT off yourself?

Would you do that to me Nic? Would you?

Oh yeah, that's right Nic, I have the SPOTLIGHT card...what will happen if that SPOTLIGHT is turned on you? Eh? Eh?

And Cekuray, all this I want to play this game right business... even if it means accusing poor Jay of being a spy and hurting his delicate feelings? Poor, poor Jay. This is just a game? Is it? Is it?

Yeh, I don't trust that Jay guy at all. At all.

Who's Jay? lol

I think you mean Marc, dear.

So tell me..... if you are Resistance, you don't find Marc's actions completely head scratch worthy? If so, why not?

I'd also like to hear Marc's explanation for his choices, though before I permanently label him :-)
