Actually Cordelia, every witness evidence is linked to a piece of PE. So if you are doing a AI case and you have 4 piece of evidence. Then you will have 5 eye witness in total.
One for every suspect with a real alibi that is linked to a PE and two that link the guilty party(who also happens to be linked to one of the PE).
I sometimes try to get all the eye witness evidence as a challenge for fun. But most suspects really enjoy clam chowder....

OK, I agree that might well be the case - I've never gone around trying to get all the available witness evidence. I just think it's potentially confusing linking townie hints to physical evidence in the newbies thread, since the key issue is where your witness evidence can come from.
Out of interest, suppose you're doing an AI case, and you only have three pieces of PE. That means that one of your suspects with a real alibi will not be linked to any PE. Will there still be WE for that suspect?

Please remember that this is a Newbie's thread.
Trying to establish whether a WE matches to a suspect with a real alibi is not helpful to a Newbie. Dark Raven is talking about going to great (but unnecessary) lengths to explore a case to its limits. These discussions are for the advanced, not Newbies.
Newbies: If you get a townie that says a suspect does not know anything. Do not bother asking that suspect for anything beyond an alibi and/or trying to accumulate more suspects.

Q: Ask whether she has heard or seen anything to make her suspect somebody.
A: No, I have no reason to suspect Stella.
Please note, that this response it only for Stella. If you ask about Tyson, you may get a different answer (if the suspect doesn't clam).
This is refered to as witness (WE) if you get a postive answer.
PE+WE DOES NOT equal guilty.
WE + WE or WE + fake or none of your business alibi = GUILTY
That's the bare bones. The rest of it is just fun for us old shoes to discuss. ;)

sigh, my fingers don't type as fast as my inner voice speaks....

If somebody hasn't seen or heard anything suspicious, that can be very helpful. It means you can ask if they know anyone who would have a motive, without risking forfeiting witness evidence.
