I'd just like to know, what determines the outcome of whether a suspect is going to be cooperative with you or shut the door on your face?

As in, is it the difference in percentage between Sweet Talking and Toughness or whichever method has the highest percentage that determines unclamming a suspect? Cause I've had times where I've used Sweet Talking on suspects who favor it only to have them clam on me instead. Is there some mechanic here I'm not familiar with?

There is a random number generator within the Sleuth case programming. Then the algorithm adjusts your success in getting cooperation according to your:

- Skills
- Character choice: very charming, very tough, etc.
- Equipment
- Agency headquarters
- Gender

Things like that. You can't get away from the random aspect.

Riza Hawkeye believes that it also depends on how softly you click your mouse on an inquiry. I have my strong doubts on that one.

I tend to have more clams when I rush the process and don't bother for the page to finish loading. So far, waiting has brought me better chances of success.

Rushing might affect the adjustments that need to be factored and added to the random rolls. If you rush, all your adjustments may not be fully loaded yet. There are times that this site runs rather slowly, and it is easy to be in too great a hurry.

If a page runs too slowly, try refreshing a page rather than forging ahead with the case.

Another adjustment I forgot to mention of course is the case level.

All I know is, the higher the number you see when you use Judge of Character, the more likely they are to answer your question. It's also true that the higher the number, the more likely they are to answer a second and maybe a third question, but the likelihood decreases every time.

I don't think there's any relationship between the Sweet Talking likelihood and the Tough likelihood . They just give you the base number for each approach.

I do have a theory about an additional factor, but since it's pure theory with no evidence whatsoever to back it up and is probably wrong, I'm not going to mention it :)

Cordelia, that is such a tantalising piece of information. You must tell us your theory! Or if you really feel that a post on the boards might lead the community astray ... then do send a pm please. I have my own theory too and will be happy to share :)

Do us all a favor and post your theories. I could use some enlightenment, even if it is unproven. :)

But it could prove enlightening.

I find solving cases while eating clam chowder has an effect.
