Question About Twists

I've noticed that several times I'll get a twist in my mystery that mentions the name of a supposed suspect, but that suspect does not appear on my list of suspects, although they will appear later - at leaset I know sometimes they do . . . I don't always pay attention.

Are the twists totally unrelated to the mystery I'm working on and it's just a coincidence if the name is actually one of my suspects? If not, I find it a little strange that they would you give the name of someone who isn't even on your list yet.

Regular Cases
After having solved thousands of cases, I tend to ignore the twists. They have no bearing on who the guilty suspect is. It is too bad, as it would make me pay attention to those twists more carefully. It would also add another dimension to case solving.

The only exception is when the political factions come into play. The twists with political connections have impact on your standings with them.

Favor Cases
Please note that even favors can impact you politically. If the twist pops up that your political standings won't be affected, that is only true if you solve the case. If you quit the favor case, your political standings will be affected.

AVH Cases
Twists in AVH cases are meaningless. They are only there to add flavor to the game.

The only thing I would add about twists are peculiar to New York. The invite to pay Larry the Toe so you can know the location of Big Lucy's. You don't have to actually read the twist since the offer to pay Larry appears as an option after you solve the case.

I believe the Big Lucy option does not pop up in either favors or AVH cases. I could be wrong though.

What is an "AVH" case?

Also, speaking of Big Lucy, is there a way to reduce her prices?

With the factions, their prices are reduced as you gain points with them, so I thought maybe there was a way to get reduced rates with Big Lucy as well?

AVH stands for Arch-Villain Hunt. AVH cases are cases that involve the Arch-Villain you're hunting.

And no, Big Lucy's price is fixed, there is no way to change it.

It's been awhile since I paid attention to twists, but I seem to recall that one of the twists (something about cops having a suspect?) does actually reveal a suspect by name and add that suspect to your list, although you're still on your own to find a motive.

Jesse is correct. There is one twist that adds a suspect automatically. And you do still have to find a motive in order to accuse that suspect.

Yet it still stands that there is no bearing on whether this suspect is the guilty one or not.
