Over the last few days my suspects have been clamming up very early in questioning - often at thevery first question. While I had expected this for RH and AI cases (which I have only tried quite recently), on reverting back to SH level ... I am suddenly finding exactly the same thing. The "adjustments" on my detective haven't changed: I still have the same for charm and smartness. Also I am not dealing with cases in any different way. It is very tiresome to have to quit at a case level that I breezed through before - or worse, be tempted to make that educated guess.....
Is there any other factor I should be aware of that might be causing this? For example, when you reach a certain experience level does the game database crank up the difficulty of all case levels? Or is it really just a a random run of bad luck?

While I have not perused your equipment (that would be un-gentlemanly), I do agree with the implication of Night Queen's comment. In my humble opinion, having charm or toughness is much more important. Keep your smarts positive, but a relatively low number - say less than 5, and less that 20% of your total.

Thank you everyone for your replies. After posting my query I recalled that I had recently changed 'theme' and am now wondering if this might have affected things - although it would seem a little odd if it did. I will change back and see if anything interesting happens.
