Ages and ages and eons ago, I was Milady here. I decided to play again and couldn't get into that account, but found I had left this one - so here I am again.

I'm at the point that I stopped with my previous character: I can do Really Really Hard cases fairly well, but can get fouled up by not being to find all of the suspects (or motives, that was annoying). Going pass that, particularly without a second contact doesn't look like a pcnic.

I know the sensible thing to do is get Advanced Sweet Talking, but I'd rather not do the sensible thing all of the time (though even that can't exlain how I have Judge of Character. Sheesh - though mind you, heaven forbid I have basic Interrogation so I actually do use the skill). It is why I have advanced hair analysis though (I wish I had ponyed up the extra point for Thread. No one seems to drop hairs in my cases - the first day I got it, 1 out of 12 pieces of evidence was a hair.)

So, on the docket for my elusive 10 skill points:
Lockpicking
Hypotism (I'm already in their good books, so no worries on the political front)
Advanced Thread Analysis

Any suggestions? Arguments in favor of always doing the "right" thing?

Hand Writing Analysis
Hope it's okay for a relative newbie to jump in on this thread? There is some very helpful information here but could I ask someone to clarify a couple of things?

My detective is smart and charming. I have therefore purchased my skills according to these characteristics. Currently I have:

Handwriting Analysis
Advanced Sweet Talking
Advanced Rule Bending
Advanced Thread Analysis
Flirting

....plus 11 skill points to spend.

I still often have suspects clam up on me - even at an early stage. Is this because they will only respond to the mean approach ... interrogation etc? Should I therefore also be trying to acquire a 'tough' skill set alongside my 'sweet' one? Any advice appreciated as I don't want to waste precious skill points.

Hi Summer, it is most definitely ok for you to post anything you need help or questions with! :)

I'd recommend NOT getting any tough skills until you have your smarts and charm skills. As your smart and charm skills will only enhance your charactertype and give you a better percentage of working! I'd go for Research next honestly. It allows you to research city hall and find out that one suspect has a past and was in jail and therefore even if he has a fake alibi and evidence to him, he cannot be guilty! Thus meaning as soon as you find all your suspects then do research.

This als means you don't have to worry about asking this person for an alibi and will save a question or two for if you need to ask him if he suspects anyone else.

Anyways thats just my recomendation.

Again. You are smart and charming. The only tough skill at this point you need is lockpicking.

Sell the snub-nosed revolver and the black trench coat. They are not helping you, as they are for those with tough attributes. Replace them with smart and/or charming equipment.

Both lockpicking and research will help you in EVERY CASE!!! Then concentrate on smart and charming skills.

Lady Jas is really giving some good advice here. There is just one crucial thing you want to look at first:

Make sure you have basic hair and thread analysis. Because unless you got those two skills, you may get cases where not all evidences are presented to you. That might make your cases VERY hard to solve.

I will sell those when I find the appropriate favor equipment to replace them with - I'm lower on cash than I like due to clearing Shady recently.

If I was playing more seriously, I would restart. (In fact, I did - this was the first character I created when I first started playing and my second had a better skill set). But I've barely the time right now to complete my four cases a day, and not enough patience to start again :)

Research skill is the absolute starting skill. All detectives should choose this skill to start the game.
Any skill you can imagine is comming after research
