To coincide with 'Talk Like a Pirate Day', on September 19, tell a nautical story *aboard (or about) the SS Sleuthetania* using one of the following formats:

1. An 'Mystery Intro' set aboard the Sleuthetania
http://noir.playsleuth.com/map/cityhall/write/intro.spy?new=true

2. A Sea Shanty - a nautical song eg
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blow_the_Man_Down
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/South_Australia_(song)

Wikipedia has a wealth of examples.

3. An Entry in the Captain's Journal for an 'incident' on the Sleuthetania. This entry could be written by the Captain, but could also be written by someone else if the Capt. was absent, or the entry demanded a certain viewpoint.

Entry:

A. Deadline: entries in by September 12, 2011. Judged and announced on September 19.

B. Enter via posting in this thread.

- for the Intro please just tell us in this post when you submitted and under what name.

- for the Shanty and Journal Entry try and limit yourself to one entry in this post, but I'm reasonable, so if there's a bit of overflow that's fine.

C. Multiple entries are acceptable.

Prizes:

A. If from 1. The winning entry will appear as an Intro (with the annotation 'Winning Entry etc etc')

If from 2. The Winning Entry will be posted somewhere on the Ship.

If from 3. The Entry will appear as an entry in the Captain's Journal.

B. The winning entry will receive a 3 month sub, a piece of piratey gear and the title 'Salty' (or words to that effect)

- please note the Title is not transferable, and will only be allotted to the sub under which the competition was entered.

c. I reserve, depending on the number of entries, the right to allot a 2nd & 3rd prize.

D. All entries deemed suitable will appear in a collectible Book hidden on the Sleuthetania. [*more...>]

After the Captain had gone back inside, the crew proceeded to create a makeshift wreath from whatever material we could spare. They invited him back out as it was put out to sea in his wife’s honor. The look on his face was indescribable. Never before had I witnessed such an unselfish act in my many years of sailing. It warms my heart to know that there is still a touch of humanity aboard this ship.

Yarr me hearties I be annou... nah sorry I can't do this all in Pirate Speak!

Thanks to those who competed and supported this competition. It wasn't an easy task set, but the writing challenges never are. I have to say there isn't one entry I didn't like. They all had their pro's and not many con's. I wasn't dotting i's and crossing t's as is my usual want, so I wasn't worried if something wasn't spelt correctly or wasn't quite grammatically correct, I simply sat back and judged purely on what tickled my fancy.

So without further ado I would like to announce the winner: Cordelia Falco for her Captain's journal entry (the one with the white parrot and the opium-fiend aunt).

Also I'd like to give out a 2nd place to: Synescence for his Sea Shanty entry. I haven't thought too much about what 2nd prize might be yet, but I'll sort that out in the coming day or three.

So yes, I'll be working on implementing the things mentioned in the Prizes section in the not-too-distant future and will keep y'all informed as I get those things done myself, or poke the bear to get the harder stuff done.

But yeah... yarrr even.

Congrats to Cordelia!!

A hearty congrats to both Cordelia and Synesence!!! Your creativity is amazing. Your both what Noir is about.

Rounds of grog on me! And if ye don't drink, ye will be keel-hauled! If ye still don't drink, then I will drain you of your blood!

And don't think your body will be missed. Every time the Sleuthetania sails, a minimum of 36 dead bodies show up. Every time!

Much thanks, Night Queen!
*Swallows his grog in one gulp*

Yes, believe Night Queen in the fact that she is a countess of her word.
And yes, the dead bodies are always the cause of 3 things:
1.Night Queen + Disobedient Passenger
2.Irritated Tipsy Captain + Nosy Passenger
3.Reckless Excited Energetic Enthusiast + Unnoticed Banana Peel
All the above lead to 'Man Overboard!'.

So DRINK!

*Raises a tankard to Night Queen, downs it and pours another*

Somehow no-one's ever had a problem getting me to drink. If you don't believe me, ask the parrot.
