Subject pretty much says it all. I really enjoy this game and one character just isn't enough. So can I play 2-3 characters? I know some games you can play more then one if you are a paid member. Not sure if that is the case. Please advise!

The above rule is something that apply IF your agency is hunting treasures.
If you are in an agency that is NOT treasure hunting, you may have as many detectives as you like and can afford in the same agency. That is, up to the limit of people that your agency head quarter allows. Or, if that is not enough, why don't fill up more than one agency with your people? It's actually quite entertaining, because then you may have one agency in each city, and you may position your fleet on different contacts so that you will have possibility of help regardless of who is the one holding an evidence or alibi.
