Hi everyone -- I've come back to Sleuth after four years away, and I can't remember anything! I'm excited to (re)discover the game myself, but I could really use a little help. How do I start a villain hunt? I got as far as the Hall of Records in the correct city, but now I'm stuck.

Also, what on earth is the Sleuthetania?!

I will give you the short answers since you are "not quite a newbie".

Starting AVH's:
1-speak to ambassador in correct city. It takes asking a lot of townies to locate him.
2-Solve AI case for him.
3-Go back to him and get a permanent invite to Shangri La.
4-Solve mysteries of gate toPrince's Palace.
5-Obtain AVH from prince.

Sleuthetania:
A ship that travels between Shanghai and New York. Voyage lasts about 3 days. You do cases on board as you do anywhere else and get contacts. There are fun things to unravel to collect books on board, and it will take many voyages to complete them. Each voyage is not cheap.

When the ship reaches its destination, you are dumped unceremoniously into the destination city without warning. So near the end of the voyage, you have to check your map to know where you are.

I'm having a little issue though. I've talked to the townies, they point me to the hall of records, but then once I get there, i only see the option "research case." And nothing comes up. Am I missing something super-obvious?

Make sure the "City News" says the ambassador is in your city the day you talk with the townies...

At least I it sounds like that is what is missing to me. Hope that helps. Someone who knows better than myself can correct me if I'm wrong.

Duchessa, from what I can see on your detective page you have already done one AVH. That means that you should have , on your detective bio, a permanent invitation to Shangri La. All you have to do is travel to Shangri La and see the Prince for a new hunt.
