There's several options available to you. One is the Detective Store, located at the top left of the New York map. The selection isn't exactly the best, but it is one option. A second option is to go find a certain Twerp who tends to hang around certain cases. For a (in his words ;-) "finder's fee" he'll lead you to the location of a swanky Cabaret. You may find something to your taste if you visit there. Finally, there is a Trading Post thread over in Sleuth Talk, I believe. If you have something specific in mind, you can post your plea in there, and somebody may be able to help you find it.
Of course, there's always the option of subscribing, which leads to the possibilities of traveling to the different cities and looking for items there, or joining an agency, and assembling a uniform through the kindness of your team members.
