Subscribing for someone else?

Is it possible to pay a subscription for someone else? I know the name of their detective, but as far as I can see, I'd need to be logged in as them to do it. Please tell me I'm wrong.

I think you need to log in as that person, yes.
If password sharing is an issue, that person can change it, you can log on and pay for them, then they can log on and change it again.
