Attention ladies and gentlemen, at the request of several players, I am proud to announce the Sleuthville AVH Tournament 2011! *trumpets blare and streamers fly*

The format will be 16 detectives, randomly paired off into teams of two by a third party, to face one other team. For this competition, players going through Cairo will have a day taken off their totals. The winning team will be the one with the lowest combined number of days for hunt completion. Failed hunts will not count against you. You will not be disqualified. If you fail your hunt and would like to start another, you may, but the day count will start from the official start date of the round. Irene will be tracking progress using her new program, so this can be considered as further testing.

The rules:

You may:
-travel to Shangri La the night before, but NOT start the hunt
-use a travel kit
-use head of faction privileges
-use agencies and apartments to swap gear

You may not (enforced only by the honor code):
-use sidekick cases (for either clues or travel)
-enter second/third detectives, etc.

The winning team(s) from each round will go on to the next round until a winning team is determined. In the case of a tie, both teams will move on to compete in a triple threat pair matchup. The last team standing wins. Anyone who would like to join, please POST here. Participants will be gathered on a first-come, first-served basis. The first matches will start on Monday, April 25, 2011.

Each following round of the competition will start on the next Monday at 0:00 sleuth server time, unless one of the matches takes longer than expected. In that case things will be adjusted accordingly and you will be updated as soon as possible.

Thanks for the thought, Vulkie, but I'm not in Cairo any more, though sadly not under the circumstances I'd wish!

I've just failed my second ever VH. The only other one I've ever failed was also in Cairo. I thought at the time it was because I'd entered the data wrong for the townies (also known as garbled spreadsheet syndrome), so this time I went through and double-checked everything. Still a fail.

The only thing I can think of is that my assumption that "is thoroughly sick of tea" = "does not like tea" is wrong and it's actually supposed to mean "loves drinking tea"???

Still wondering how I managed to solved my first Cairo VH if that's the case. Maybe it didn't involve tea...

Apologies to my unfortunate partner :(

I've started another VH: not sure what the verdict was on whether the rules allow that, but the judges are free to count it or discount it as they like. I'm just hoping it doesn't take me to Cairo.

Not a good day... :(

Cordelia

The thing that is soooo hard to keep in the front of your thinking is -
"What does the clue tell me about the TOWNIE?"

As you indicate, sometimes (not always) the clue is indirect and backwards. I still have to be extra careful about how I read them.

Ugh :( I just failed my hunt. My last clue was **** is thoroughly sick of coffee. Since every other clue was about the co-conspirator, I immediately checked who liked tea and accused. NOPE! It was that the VILLAIN is sick of coffee. I'll start a new hunt probably later today, but I'm too pissed off to do anything right now.

I think it seems like the idea of gracing people an extra day for Cairo might be just about suitable? :-)

Perhaps Secret Squirrel were too optimistic about how easy Cairo is :-P

I hope this will end up as the fun tournament we looked forward to :-D Seems promising right now at least :-D

Oh, as pr. Riza's authorization I have now included a C column in the http://playsleuth2.com/Noir/bonus/Scores/AVHtournament.spy?id=4
page (which you are now meant to be able to look at without logging in). The C is meant to be for Cairo, where 1 means, have been/is in Cairo, and 0 means, not known to have been in Cairo.

There is some funny things with the tracking, that I will have to sort out later, and also I doubt the scoring will work out well, but now, you will be able to calculate yourself with the information availiable :-D

Would it be possible to get one day off for having to pass through Delhi as well?

Delhi was always my nemesis, but the past few hunts that seems to have shifted to London. Bleah.

Regarding the "sick of coffee/tea", the clue states that it is the villain who is sick of it. Some of the clues mention the co-conspirator, so it is confusing.

Heimlich, commiserations, and I confess I'm glad it's not just me who is confused by that one. I think I must have missed that it's the villain who's sick of tea/coffee, not the co-conspirator. Once you realise that, the whole thing makes a lot more sense!

Thanks to those people who PMd me about it.
