Attention ladies and gentlemen, at the request of several players, I am proud to announce the Sleuthville AVH Tournament 2011! *trumpets blare and streamers fly*

The format will be 16 detectives, randomly paired off into teams of two by a third party, to face one other team. For this competition, players going through Cairo will have a day taken off their totals. The winning team will be the one with the lowest combined number of days for hunt completion. Failed hunts will not count against you. You will not be disqualified. If you fail your hunt and would like to start another, you may, but the day count will start from the official start date of the round. Irene will be tracking progress using her new program, so this can be considered as further testing.

The rules:

You may:
-travel to Shangri La the night before, but NOT start the hunt
-use a travel kit
-use head of faction privileges
-use agencies and apartments to swap gear

You may not (enforced only by the honor code):
-use sidekick cases (for either clues or travel)
-enter second/third detectives, etc.

The winning team(s) from each round will go on to the next round until a winning team is determined. In the case of a tie, both teams will move on to compete in a triple threat pair matchup. The last team standing wins. Anyone who would like to join, please POST here. Participants will be gathered on a first-come, first-served basis. The first matches will start on Monday, April 25, 2011.

Each following round of the competition will start on the next Monday at 0:00 sleuth server time, unless one of the matches takes longer than expected. In that case things will be adjusted accordingly and you will be updated as soon as possible.

Also, since this is the first time I am trying this kind of matchup, expect slight confusion. Please PM me with any questions or concerns you may have. I’m hoping to see new faces out there, as well as the return of some of our beloved veterans. I will do my best to make this as “interesting” as possible for all of you. ;)

The winning team will split the grand prize of $500,000. I’m looking forward to seeing you at the starting line, my fellow detectives! :D

Sounds very interesting and I encourage people to participate as it will be very good for the community. A small problem is that the number of rounds is making very busy in real life people to avoid it as they probably do not have the time or the energy needed to follow it to the end ( I would personally vote for a 1 max 2 rounds tournament).
Another issue (according to my opinion) is the fail VH issue. For me a fail hunt is extremely important and should be judged accordingly. I believe that it is much better to end a hunt successfully in 30 days than to risk a failed hunt just to be the first to end it (as this is what some people may do …hehehe… we all know that a failed hunt is practically impossible if you can wait to get the clues). I believe that failed hunt should absolutely count against you 100% and should exclude you immediately . I cannot imagine a winner in the tournament having a fail hunt .

AVAPT Protests in the Streets
"Crime SHOULD Pay!!" a Placard stated frankly, during the first of many planned protests by the 'Archvillains Are People Too' co-operative. "Ve are here protestink the unkind way our loved ones are beink treated by zis 'orrible Riza 'awkeye voman... an Archvillain Tournament indeed! Ve ave rights you know!" Spokesperson for AVAPT, 'reformed' philanthropist Baroness Magda Malatesta informed the gathered media. "Zis is not ze last you ave eard from us" she wailed as police led the Baroness away for questioning over a number of unresolved jewelry thefts.

And some say that nothing ever happens in sleuth ville!

I will join in, but I will NOT agree on failing a hunt in order to see if the next AVH will be better.

On the other hand, I am not too worried about someone else wanting that to happen with them either. :-P

If I start one hunt, and get to the first city, and start getting repetitive clues. - I might get the idea of failing this hunt to try to start another one, BUT, I will then loose all the effort that I have put into the current hunt, as well as new cases to go through Shangri La to get my next AVH. - and, I cannot be sure that my next hunt will be without repetitive clues.

The more cities I have finished in my current hunt, the more costly it will be to start over again. - I know about nobody else who can do 2-days captures than Lady Jas and Riza Hawkeye, and then I am pretty sure they are using sidekick cases...

So, failing a hunt to start over is generally a bad idea, BUT, if it's your only option, I see nothing wrong in allowing it.

After a long long time this person comes from the ashes of boredom and strain only to find himself born anew with skills comparable to the great masters............. He makes his stand on the field of VH tourney........

*remember last time loss -- scampers away*

Riza walks in all happy to see few brilliant members already joined. But she spots one scampering back runs up and to him and glares...

"okay ma'am I shall participate" he says... hoping to get some really extra super ally to help him in his hunt... YAHOOO... !!!!
