I was reading some of the old threads about Cairo, and I gathered that you must choose between these two skills (i.e. you can only get one or the other). Is this correct? Do things work differently with these two faction skills, as in there is no going back once you've picked one. If this is the case, is there a consensus on which skill is more helpful?

I realize the answer may contain spoiler information...If it does, just PM the answer if possible.

Thanks,

Serena

TD, from the times I've tried going in the catacombs for one of my agents who has TD, I have found that it only senses when a trap is near. You can still fall into 3 traps and lose the map just like you can with HN.

I'm impatient to get to these levels- sounds fun!

I did some reading earlier and thought that trap avoidance seemed to have the highest advantages but I think again, some of this comes down to personality and temperment?

Yes peach, it does. :)

I love Hostage Neg. because I travel all the time for TH's and for Villian Hunts and for other missions so it makes it nice not having to worry. But each person has to do what they feel is the best route for their detective.

There is another reason why you should choose The Tea Steepers…This faction has an unique sleuth theme called “Secret #2”,witch is nowhere to be found. So with The Tea Steepers you will have safe passage between cities, plus the chance of having all the sleuth themes.

Shangri La Tigers are also good,if you are addicted to the piramides. At the end of the day it’s a matter of choise…but I see more advantages in the first faction.

@Lady Jas: Turtledove makes a good point. "How can you lose your map after 3 tries with TD?" It's virutally impossible to bump into a trap 3x using Trap Detection imo. The only way one can bump into a trap at all with TD is when you hit a crossroad that goes in all four direction and it says "the trap is near". However through my experience in the catacombs, I have never encountered that situation before (has any TD ppl even encountered that situaiton? o.o). In addition, I only bumped into a trap once and that was when was sleepy. >.>

@Thomas Veil: Someone told me what Secret #2 was and imo, it wasnt worth it (Go Green Hand theme!). But yeah, if one wants to have all Sleuth themes, then it would be best to go with HN. >.>

But yeah, SS pretty much said it all in his post. =)

I have HN, and started my catacomb hunting to get a new pair of shoes. I did O.K. twice, I was able to get 2 certificates, but got kicked out and lost my map on the 3rd trap of my 3rd try.

I don't have a problem losing my map because of the three strike rule, nor having to go through all the PE/WE favors to get another piece of the map, what I don't like is having to pay the 4 skill points AGAIN. When you get to a certain level it's hard to get skill points . If a person with HN loses their map because of pirates/traps, maybe they should only pay 2 skill points to start over. It shouldn't be like gambling at therace track.

The price paid for having HN seems far larger than the price of having TD.

Sorry to revive an old thread but I have a question I can't seem to find an answer to regarding these two skills.

According to the map, Cairo is ALWAYS under blockage by pirates. So, can you get to Cairo without Hostage Negotiation.

I'm sure I'm just reading things wrong but want to make sure before I make my lil Sleuth goals. :)
