Finally out on my own. I had to get disowned to do it, to get my freedom, but here I am. In the slums of London, waiting tables for shillings while I try to solve some cases on the side.

Not the dream life I envisioned when I left New York and my parent’s watchful eyes. The champagne doesn’t flow freely and the parties are non-existent. At least for me.

When he walked in from the constant London rain, I noticed him right away. He’s tall. Over 6’3” at least. Being short, I notice the tall ones. The ones that tower over me and have a possibly dangerous advantage.

He took off his Rattlesnake Cowboy Hat and shook the water from it, removed his coat and sauntered over to the only corner table left in the place.

I glanced over at Mary, the night manager, tilted my head in his direction, letting her know that I’ve got him. She had a small smile on her face, almost smug in it’s knowledge.

“Evening sir, what can I get for you tonight?”

I took her to a litte place near the river. While we waited for our food to arrive, we started talking. Eventually it turned to marriage.

"One day I'd like to get married. Maybe even someday soon. If the right girl happened along and had long curly hair and pretty blue eyes." I winked at her, swallowing my mirth at her wide eyed face.

Was he serious? Marriage? He winked at me, but how do you tell if a guy is serious about these things?

"Marriage is good. I'd like to get married too. One day. If the right guy happened along. One that was tall and handsome." I turned his game back on him. But I didn't get the response I expected.

"You know, my birthday is in December. Christmas is always a fun time to get engaged." I was only partially serious. She was a great dame and I'd be lucky to keep her.

Now if only I could find out what Security wanted. I figure the Boss wants me followed. After that debacle in New York with Rachel, I knew the management was worried about me losing it again over a woman.

But this one was different. I couldn't see myself going into a downward destructive heroin induced spiral over this girl. This girl was just as interested in me as I was in her.

"December it is then. On your birthday." If he was serious, I had time to get used to the idea, and if not, we could play it off as a joke.

Now my only worry was this broad. The one that kept following us around. At first I was thinking stalker. But then I remembered that I caught a glimpse of her at his agency. Maybe it was just a member of his team, curious to what he was doing. Or maybe she was practicing her tailing skills.

I know he's seen her, but he's not mentioned anything about it. So I guess there's no need to worry. Yet. But if I see her again, I'll mention it to him.

We haven't gone a day without seeing one another since the night we discussed marriage. Granted, it hasn't been the best conditions. We've both been working cases like crazy.

Some nights it's just him stopping by to say hello and have a cup of joe and a piece of pie.

But it's enough for now. Enough to let me know that he cares.

And I think it's time for one of us to make a move, and it looks like it's going to have to be me. When he comes in tonight.

I decided to stop in the diner tonight. As usual.

Suprisingly, it wasn't that busy tonight, so Terra was able to come over to my table and talk to me.

We were chit-chatting about our day when;

*Ding Ding*

The bell over the door rang.

"Looks like it's back to work, dear. I guess I'll see you later."

I was just sitting in my chair, waiting for her to walk away, because let's face it, I hated for her to leave, but it was nice watching her go.

But instead of turning around she leaned over and kissed my on the mouth. Just a pressing of lips. A simple, sweet kiss.

She told me goodnight, with a small secretive smile on her face, and walked over to the customers that had just walked in.

I have a stupid grin on my face. I just know it. And I doubt it's going to leave anytime soon.

All the way home all I could think was, "She kissed me!". I clutched the jeweler's box in my pocket tight.

I think it's time.

Now that I've kissed him, we can't seem to keep our hands off each other. We've spent every waking non-working moment together since that night.

When I arrived at his place, he seemed kinda jumpy. Which made me nervous.

"Close your eyes, dear."

She did. And I put the jewelers box in her hand.

"Okay. Now open them."

I was excited. And scared.

I opened my eyes, and I'm sure they widened in shock.

It was NOT a ring box. It was long and flat. Inside was a beautiful 14k gold bracelet.

He took it from my hands and put it on. He told me it was a sign of his devotion and claim. He smiled slightly at that last part.

"Thank you so much! It's wonderful!" I reached up on tip-toe and kissed his lips. It really was gorgeous and it was a surprise. Still that small part of me was slightly disappointed it wasn't a ring.

I still had till December though. And with that thought, I took his hand as we headed into the muggy London night for our nightly walk.

It's been such a wonderful week. I was sick the last two days. But it was wonderful.

Jeremy took care of me. He hauled his radio over to my place so we could sit on the couch and listen to programs while I tried to get better. He even made me soup! Was that ever an odd sight! But it was pretty decent. I'm not sure where he learned to cook, but he's pretty good at it.

Since my sickness has seemed to pass, I guess I have to get back to work. But I know he will be in later and that truly is the highlight of my day.
