I am a subscribed detective. Under detective option, under Avatar, I tried to upload mu own pic to replace the default I chose initially.

Now I've been left faceless and X-rated! WHY? If you wanted to ok my pic 1st, that's okay, but why did you cut my head off??

I'd try another image. We don't vet images. It's automatic. So sometimes if you try to load an image that isn't compatible with the editor it'll glitch (not very often) or sometimes it can just take a little while for it to kick in. In any case if you still look like that after roll over Ben'll have a proper look.

I've just tested this with an alt of mine who had a standard face. If you put a numbered image up (eg, 001.jpg, like I did) then you will end up with a blank face. BUT, trying to replace it with a properly named avatar (in my case avatar.jpg) still yields a blank face. So, let this be a warning to all:

IF you are submitting an avatar, make sure you rename it to something simple that does NOT contain numbers. To be safe, just name it avatar.jpg.

I believe there is mainly two reasons to why a picture for a new avatar does not work:

a) The image is named with just numbers and extension jpg.
- this may be a problem because our avatars when uploaded are named that way, and there is a great possibility of naming collision, and you are (thank God) not allowed to overwrite another avatar.

b) There is no more room on the server to store any more avatar photo's. Considering that the community find the ability to change avatar most satisfying, the amount of avatar updates have grown to a much higher rate compared to when Secret Squirrel did the work manually, and had to bug Sleuth Admin to do the final trick before something happened.
Obviously there is a limit to how many avatars it is possible to store on the server, and when it's full, there is no more room.

There's probably a limit but, well, most servers can handle the load. I'm apt to think it's more along the lines of (a) mentioned above.

Renaming files in your computer to have meaningful names is probably a wise idea to begin with.

It is on a small list of things for Ben to resolve. I'm sorry for the delay. It'll be fixed soon. Fortunately it doesn't effect game play. :)

How do you upload your own avatar? Do they have some you can choose from? What if you want another picture of a famous person how doyou do that?

OK those of you you lost your faces should have them back for now.

For the time being, don't use the avatar uploader... I'll turn it off until it's fixed.

Sorry for the identity crisis.
