When you buy a book, does it contribute to your skill level or anything else?

Books increase your experience points. If you own an apartment and have a Library then your friends can visit, open the books and increase their exp pts too. They are also fun to read :-)

Books are AMAZING!!! I love books. :)
But yes, it increases your xp, and some are awarded for special contests and things, so it's always fun to go to apartments with those to read! :D

You do not have to have an apartment to collect books, only to share them with others.
Think of it as free literature - and now, collecting books is also related to the new achievement titles. It just depends how many bragging rights you want!

I think it's 120 xp per book, unless that's changed lately.

Don't quote me on this, but i think obtaining some of the books is also a step in obtaining certain themes. Some of the old timers may be able to help you in this process if you are really keen to do it. Good luck! L

If you like reading anyway, they're very good. In addition, some of the questions given for the factions are about those books, so it can save you some time and effort googling for answers.
