Amidst the blare of Sleuthville's cars and the general noise of the city streets, Riza acends a cardboard box at City Hall, clearing her throat.

Annoyed at getting no response from the hundreds of detectives around her chasing murderers and getting drunk at the bar, she grabs Anais Nin, who is walking by, by the shoulders and whispers something into her ear.

Anais nods. A second later, a shrill shriek rips through the air, making many people jump and exclaim in surprise. Riza smiles, thanks Anais, and starts to speak.

Ladies and Gentlemen, the time has come once again for a Villain Hunt Tournament! Recently, seeing how contests are always fun and bring the community together--both spectators and participants--the Vidocq Society is honored to host the Tournament of the Champions.

What's that you say? You're not a champion? Pfft, who cares? What is a champion but one who rises to greaness? You all have the chance to obtain greatness and immortalize yourselves! Each and every single one of you. *points at everyone in turn*

That being said, anyone who wants to join, please post here. The match will start on Monday March 8, 2010 at 0:00 sleuth server time. Now on to the rules.

You may:
-travel to Shangri La the night before, but NOT start the hunt
-use a travel kit
-use head of faction privileges
-use agencies and apartments to swap gear

You may not:
-use sidekick cases
-enter second/third detectives, etc.

Basically, you're on the honor code.

The format will be 8 or 16 detectives, depending on turnout, each randomly paired off by a third party to face one other person. The winner from each round will go on to the next round. Same day captures are considered ties, and will result in a triple threat match. The last one standing wins.

Thank you for your kind words Ms. Rune. You were a worthy adversary as well. You were one city ahead of me the past two days and I would have placed money on your victory in this round.

It was indeed only a run of luck that allowed to to solve city 3 in four cases and gave me my final clue for city 4 on my last none sidekick case. Were the co-conspirator any other person, it would have taken me at least 2 more pieces of info to win that final city.

In other news, all this travelling enabled me to pick up my final skill, Puglism. Now if only I could find a way to get trap detection I'd be in business.

I'm also finished. Nice when a lucky streak actually turns up exactly when it's wanted! My thanks and commiserations to my gallant opponent, Lady Zeugirdor.

Well I'm officially out of the running. Way too many repeats, etc., etc. Congrats to my good friend Laura and good luck to Sal Iva. Good luck to all those great hunters who remain in the competition :-)

I feel your pain, turtledove, I'm still getting those repeats and my worthy opponent finished already. (Congrats Cordelia!) Not only being out of the competition I'm still trying to get "that" clue in City #3!

Oh Lady Zeugirdor, after this last hunt I must say I share your sentiment.
Delhi was my last city. After narrowing the search down to only two suspects, it took me another 10 solved cases in a row to get the clue I needed.

Good luck with your hunt.

Well I'm going to have to tip my hat to the victor here, congrats to Sal!

The clues definitely did not fall in my favor this round. Believe you me, I'm all for a waterboarding skill being added to the skill set after this hunt.

Good luck Sal, I'm sure you have a tough fight in the finals.

Thanks Heim. As you well know, all you can do is solve the cases and hope for a break in the way the clues fall. It was my turn to be lucky, I guess. I hope I haven't used it all up in this round. Tough fight in the finals? That's all I've had so far. That and a chance to meet some very nice people.
I'm no Dick Cheney fan, but I agree about the waterboarding. :)

*looks at sea and points at Heimlich waterboarding*. I can imagine it all. But I'd rather like that dolphine idea, in the "ideas" thread for HLI xD

Hats off to Coredilia Falco, gave me quite a run. Of course all the repeats didn't help either, but I went down swinging, narrowed it down to two people in the final city and guessed wrong! Goog luck to both Sal and Cordy in the finals! :-D
