Have hair analysis and advanced hair analysis. When I finally got found some hair to analyze I wasn't told anything beyond "you have found two clumps of hair from two different people." Is this supposed to happen?

Yes it is supposed to happen, you need to figure out who the hairs belong to. It is part of the case you build against the (potential) killer. If your hair matches someone with a fake or it says they do not have an alibi, it is your killer.
