Yes, I am reading Sherlock Holmes now.

By the way I read that Carolyn Keene (Nancy Drew) is not actually one writer but actually a group of writers hired by the publisher to all write under this name. Is this true?

That's what I've heard as well about many similar series. Ghost writing has been an enormous industry ever since the advent of the dime novel. So I wouldn't be in the slightest bit surprised to hear this.

Also, considering "Carolyn Keene" has been writing books since my grandmother was a child....:)

I had forgotten about the Encyclopedia Brown books until a few days ago, when I came across a book of 2 Minute Mysteries, by Sobule. Man, those books were fun!!!

My favorite as a kid of the group efforts was Conan.
I'm not a fan of Agatha Christie, except the Poirot series on PBS with Suchet.
Voraciously read every Doyle I could get my hands on as a youngster too. (Even those not about Holmes.)

I guess I got started, with a copy of "The Boy's Sherlock Holmes", and then "Enclycopedia Brown", (anyone for a "garage agency"?). I don't really remember crossing paths with Nancy Drew or the Hardy Boys. There were a lot of books that were titled like "The Mystery of the Deserted "Whatever", but always seemed to turn out an "innocent mystery" that just needed to be "explained".

i really like Dan Brown(DaVinci Code, Angels and Demons). he counts as a mystery writer, right? for detective stories, i like Robert B. Parker and Lawrence Block.

what about detective shows? ANGEL is a story about a PI, does that count?
