Faction skill help

I have hypnotism.

How do the other faction skills work? Right now I'm working on improving the faction from the Arcanum Brotherhood, I think it's pickpocketing, from the link in the newbie FAQ. Is this a good skill to have?

I have completed all the smart skills including research, and have advanced intimidation and advanced interrogation. I was aiming for lockpicking, but I have enough standing with the Arcanum to get the faction skill...

Just asking because it takes forever to get a skill point now :p

Speaking for myself, I've left pickpocketing practically till last, because it doesn't actually help you solve cases. Yes, it means that you don't lose out on cash if your client's guilty, but those cases don't crop up that often, and my feeling is that as you progress through the game money becomes less of an issue.

I'd go with lockpicking, because it saves you questions. I'm also quite fond of stress detection, because knowing how many questions I have left with a townie can help me with my strategy, but that's more of a personal thing - lockpicking is definitely useful.

I second Cordelia's comments. Definitely go for Lock Picking before pick pocketing.

I guess I'll just keep upping my faction standing then, since I'm so curious to figure out what the faction leader gets :)
