Wow, what a surprise to log on this morning to find something new on my detective page! It seems we now have official Sleuth titles. I can't wait to find out how to unlock them. This is so exciting! :D

I think the way Ben has set it up now is really good. If he starts adding titles for how many times people post in a certain section, well I think that leads to all kinds of inconsistencies in terms of 'worth' of title. eg if Turtledove rightly gets a great title for 100 Villain hunts, is that the same as someone making 100 random crappy posts in RP. (not that there are ANY crappy posts in RP) And then if you say it would only be for quality posts, then well, who judges quality?! At the moment everything is quantifiable? (is that the word I'm looking for?) you know, can be statistically justified without personal interpretation.

I agree. I'm also a bit wary of any system which rewards people for the number of posts they make because I used to use a forum where people would post meaningless drivel just to get their next post count title. Not that most of the people round here would do that, but it would be a pity if the board mods had to go into overdrive.

Ugh, I know exactly what you're saying, Cordy. I used to read a forum where people had various titles dependent on how times they had posted (plus their post count), and much stupidity would be said, such as, "U shud respeck PostTroll and everyting he sez becuz hes Uber Poster n has posted 14,000 timez!!!"

And, of course, most of what PostTroll had posted was total crap that was mostly insulting other people and/or making highly questional suggestions of a sexual nature. Yeah, because posting that 14,000 times deems a person worthy of respect.

Anyway, as I ramble on and on... Squirrel has made an excellent point. Hopefully there is a way to reward RP with a title, but number of posts isn't it.

That being said, I don't need a post count to post meaningless drivel. I just do it anyway.

After all, you are talking about the nonsensical ravings of a lunatic mind! Hey maybe I can have THAT for a title! ;-)

I'll add my agreement to titles regarding the amount of posts made etc, I was going to mention it yesterday but I had my lazy head on :D

I also really hope that people don't start making lists of each titles and the requirements to unlock them to pass out to everyone. This is a great new addition to the game especially for the older players who where looking for a new challenge. It won't be too much of a challenge if people can just look up how to get each title. After all I'm sure there's a reason Ben has kept the titles hidden on the detective page :)

Oh?
So there is people posting crap posts?
I did not realize so... :-(
- well, then the counter idea was not a good one!

I agree with Squirrel that the need of judging is not something wanted either.... - so...

Hm... let me try to come with another idea...
Could there be some kind of bigger competitions run different places, and the winner been allowed to have some title as "Winner of ......." whatever competition there is. - oh, and not any competition, there must be some competitions approved by Admin first place...
Could be any kind of competition though, like being the first to catch 10 AV's in a row from a defined starting time, or being the most beautiful avatar.... eh... we'we just had that one... - well, hopefully you get my idea :-)
Then there could be some RP competition as well, perhaps with a big panel of judges? Like who have managed to write a story that people actually find worth reading and entertaining?

Something deep inside of me says this is not a too good idea either...
- but then, if there is nothing to disagree about, the really good ideas don't emerge either ;-)

NOWHERE does it say that there are crap posts on the RP boards. I shouldn't feel the need to point this out, but obviously there is misunderstanding.

And the idea for an RP title based on post count was not a bad idea, Huglover, just an idea that could be exploited badly. A really good, unexploitable RP title idea may not ever come up, but it doesn't hurt to try. On the other hand, we could also just wait and see what else Ben might have up his sleeve... that devious little Fez-wearer!
