Hello all.
I'm fairly new to Sleuth and I thought I might share a little hobby of mine with you all. Here's something for that sad moment when the mysteries of the day are all done.

Thousands lay up gold within this house,
but no man made it.
Spears past counting guard this house,
but no man wards it.
What is it?

It was a race, the human race. He was the first to start (be born ou tof this siblings), and so presumed he'd be the first to finish (die), and so when he came in third he was amused for the reason that he'd outlived his siblings... that's too morbid and convoluted to be the right answer.

Maybe it was alook alike competition and he was the person they were meant to look like, and he entered and came third, that would be amusing...

Secret Squirrel takes the cake. He must have had Morrocco helping him. :p

This actually is a true story. Charlie Chaplin entered a look a like contest for himself, and placed third.

This is an alpha-numeric riddle from Rotsby's Book of Riddles. A word and a number.

The Irish are this word
How else would they find that golden end
If an Non-Irishman got to the race he would have plus one.
To bad he isn't good at math.
2+2=4

What animal walks on four feet in the morning, on two at noon, and on three in the evening?

I'm sure you have all heard that one, it's from Oedipus the King. Which, incidentaly, was the first murder mystery ever written, and the only one I've read where the murderer turns out to be the detective.
