Hello all.
I'm fairly new to Sleuth and I thought I might share a little hobby of mine with you all. Here's something for that sad moment when the mysteries of the day are all done.

Thousands lay up gold within this house,
but no man made it.
Spears past counting guard this house,
but no man wards it.
What is it?

Gosh, you're good, except for #1... the answer is 3 apples. 2 taken from the bunch, and one in your intestine. Which is why you were on your way to the bathroom. 3 outta 4 ain't bad...

A carnivourous plant growing gentleman from England described this as the brightest sun in the universe. What is it?

Nope Madame Giry. Intelligence or Sentient Life.

The gentleman I referred to is Terry Pratchett, who refers to his carnivourous plants on every book fly leaf he writes. The Jokers are the alien race that diguised themselves as a nonsentient species when they hid on "The Darkside of the Sun" in the book of the same name. The riddle is taken from that book where everyone is looking for the place they went.

It seems that we need some new riddles, so here is one.

A man walks into a bar and asks for a glass of water. The bartender pulls out a shotgun and points it at him. The man says thank you and leaves. Why?

Here is one more. What is unusual about this paragraph taken from "Gatsby"?

Gatsby was walking back from a visit down in Branton Hill's manufacturing district on a Saturday night. A busy day's traffic had had its noisy run; and with not many folks in sight, His Honor got along without having to stop to grasp a hand, or talk; for a mayor out of City Hall is a shining mark for any politician. And so, coming to Broadway, a booming bass drum and sounds of singing, told of a small Salvation Army unit carrying on amidst Broadway's night shopping crowds. Gatsby, walking towards that group, saw a young girl, back toward him, just finishing a long, soulful oration ... "
