Hello all.
I'm fairly new to Sleuth and I thought I might share a little hobby of mine with you all. Here's something for that sad moment when the mysteries of the day are all done.

Thousands lay up gold within this house,
but no man made it.
Spears past counting guard this house,
but no man wards it.
What is it?

But on this game, cheating should not be allowed. :)

Correct Ben. I like you alternate answer on the dog story. :)

Another:
While reading an article on slaughterhouses, Mrs. Shady fell asleep and dreamt she was a chicken on a large farm. She dreamt that a farmer caught her and put her nec on the chopping block. Just as his axe was descending Mr. Shady walked into the room and touched the back of her neck to awaken her. The shock was so great she died instantly. Is there anything wrong with this story?

Anyone whom already knows this riddle is not allowed to answer. Also looking up the answer is not allowed. So there. :)

And this coming from someone that could only answer only answer a few of the little job questions, without looking them up online. :)

i think it's that you have to be touched at the front of the neck, where the more sensitive areas are instead of the back where it's more plain, of course, i'm to young to understand to much anyway. am i right?

There's a pressure point just above the nape of the neck that, once pushed, is supposed to knock a person out for twenty minutes. Combined with the dream, her body could truly have believed that her head had been chopped off.

Actually, pushing won't do it. But a good chop like movement with the side of your hand would do it, I've never seen anyone out over this for 20 minutes though.

I don't think chickens are killed by decapitation in industrial farms. Aren't their necks wrung by a machine? Anyway, they certainly wouldn't be caught by hand.

Oh dear. In that case, jstkdn, please forget everything I said in my earlier post.
S.A. ... (Shudder.)

Uh... did Mr. Shady walk across a carpet beforehand?

But the chicken could be dying any old way in her dream! Her dream wouldn't have to be accurate and true-to-life, would it?
